childhood dreams 0x01

Description
Remember your childhood dreams? As the child grows older, new dreams come, however the old childhood dreams remain the most beautiful. Sometimes they are set aside for a time, but they can always be brought back. Think of the crisp taste of the sky, the bright color of the air, then reach out and feel your favorite toy. Let this music take you there.

This is a short sketch... perhaps there will be time to let this child grow, later.

Very good ideas. Sounds like it came from the soundtrack to a Tim Burton movie. I think you've captured both a child's joys and fears at the same time. Although I think the later was an accident. Or maybe I'm the only one hearing it that way.

joy and fear
They must go hand in hand, it is no accident. One can only appreciate joy if it is outlined by fear, it crispens the memory. Pure joy is the complete avoidance of fear, however, one has to know fear to achieve that. So yes, when you dream beautiful dreams, you are surrounded by darkness. The "edges of darkness" is intentional in this music, and your very good ears detected it. Andrew, I sincerely appreciate your joyful presence here, thank you.

Exactly
how I would imagine a child's dream to sound Drak. Love the background to foreground sounds which swirl back and forth like clouds drifting in waltz time.... enjoyed, regards M

synthesis of dreams
It is good to know what was working for you in this... the slowed 6/8 time is waltz-like. And I spent most of the time after writing the music, fiddling and shaping and honing the synth sounds, that was the bulk of the tinker time, to aim for a dream-like, child-memory-invoking atmosphere. Thank you Maurice.

where's that hanging
Mobile? That's what this makes me think of.

Unfortunately, my recurring childhood dream was me on an examination table; "real life" wasn't, I was an experimental specimen on on an alien space vessel

- go figure that one. That was before all the rave about abductions... LOL!

Alabama had nothing to do with it, I promise. And I did notice when I met you that you did seem a little taller than normal humans. Glad I could probe your alien memory.

I love
the chord progression in this. I may have to steal that from you for a future song.

Please keep at this. It is worth finishing.

Really great!

Sir M!
There is certainly something intriguing about this progression I came up with, although I am sure others have found it too. Feel free to "riff it off" from me, it would certainly do well in your talented hands.
vi/I/vi/IV/vi/IV/vi/iii7
I also sent you a note. Please let me know if you come up with anything from this, I enjoy your work and would love to hear it.

Drakonis...
This is great....actually, being that I am the morbid and twisted sort (at times) this reminds me of the movie "It" by Stephen King, lol. So I agree with alackbass regarding the whole "dreams and or dreams vs. fears" thing. Will get right on this, dear.
ic42 said 3213 days ago (August 8th, 2010)
the horror of it all
I can descend into gothic/darkwave/twisted/morbid with the best of them, but I must admit that horror creeps me out... I guess that is its intent though. So I've not been much of a Stephen King follower. But a tinge of darkness defines the light. I look forward to seeing what "it" turns into in your capable hands. Thank you very much for your interest and thoughtful comments, and welcome to the Macjams playground.

returning to visit
It is healthy to learn how to return and visit that place sometimes, but you are correct, it is not an easy place for most of us adults to find again, with the noise and clutter of adulthood crowding our minds. It is necessary sometimes to set aside "Hammock Time" (as my wife and I call it) even for an hour a week, and that quiet time without distractions is a good time to visit again.

Thank you John, for listening and commenting.

Lovely
That chord progression looks more complicated than it sounds, belying the childlike quality (I guess that makes for a little "darkness"?). This has a lot of potential Eduard. I, too, vote for you to spend more of your scarce time helping this child grow.

time is a four letter word
however, I shall use it as well as I can. The chord progression was Greek to me until several months ago, but I am learning Greek. :-) Thank you for listening to this, and I have some help with making this better, please watch for a possible upcoming collab :-)

developments
there are spices in the pot, and it is simmering slowly. First order of business is to get Addison into college, so the next version of this is coming along very slowly, but it is indeed unfolding, hopefully to delight you further.

captured a sense of childhood innocence in this piece but with a macabre frame of mind. Great start, cant wait to hear where it goes from here.

It's like
dreaming you're at the amusement park and staring in wonderment at all the rides, then you turn to your mom and she's gone, but a clown is smiling down at you. Innocent and a bit spooky at the same time. Very effective!

... mom? MOM?!
There is a bit of a feeling of off-kilter weirdness in this I am cultivating, but I am not sure why, it seems endearing in a strange old-country way... perhaps like the Grimms Fairy Tales, that you remember from childhood, but reading more closely, you find them to be quite horrific tales. Thank you for not running screaming in the night after listening.

Has a kind of modern music box quality to it (maybe a music jarre?). Think you did fine on the dream subject too. Eventually maybe we'll even get a teenage version..? Downloaded, so thanks!
