Description
So, I've taken a little rest from my Japanese Idioms project and am trying out a little ambient music, under the alias Danti Hobri. I don't know much about the ambient genre outside of Brian Eno and Stars of the Lid, so I'd really welcome any feedback on this one.

Wow
I really liked this a lot, you've sure got a great talent for this. Great sounds including the voices (yours or samples?), good development/build and nothing to complain about the mix. Reminds me a little of Peter Gabriel's Passion. Hope you will try it some more. Thanks for the download :-)

Thanks
I'll be putting up more in this style, aiming for an album's worth before too long. The voices are mine but they're heavily processed. I'll track down the Peter Gabriel album you mentioned and listen to how it fits with the movie. Cheers, Henrik.

Nice
I really like this...very peaceful. I closed my eyes and imagined falling in slo-mo through the sky. Awesome...movie-esque.
dantimmermans said 3336 days ago (August 30th, 2010)
that's interesting
I just relistened to it with the idea of falling, and you're right, it really does work. also, glad you mentioned 'peaceful', because I worried that it got a little claustrophobic and oppressive towards the end. Thanks, for your comment and listening, Carrie.

Hey Dan
The extreme time-stretching software?
Nice drifting sounds you have created here, love the vocals and the almost hymn-like chord changes
Feel like I am in an ice cavern looking up at the crisp blue sky
Don't really know how to suggest improvements - as you are probably aware now, I believe that everything is ultimately totally recyclable so no matter what you have done (and it sounds great) in can always be re-done a million times over in a million different ways

yeah, you got it...
...this makes use of the paulstretch program. each part is slowed to a different percentage but I made some effort to ensure the notes still coincided as logical chords. some tracks were also backmasked. I got confused.

That time stretching software sure produces some interesting sounds. Eery, yet calming, tranquil. You did a good job with this - it is very cool. Thanks for sharing!

pleasure to share
Thanks, Sigmund. I'm pretty happy with how these experiments are panning out. At first I worried about 'jumping on the bandwagon', using a piece of software that only blew up because someone posted a stretched version of a Justin Bieber song. I, for one, wouldn't have heard about it otherwise. But more and more I figure, "Screw it, I like what's coming out and it's just a tool". If folks put work into, and design, parts with stretching in mind, I think it's a legitimate use of some pretty exciting and easy-to-use software.

For someone
that doesn't know much about the ambient genre you made a great but tranquil leap into it :) love the vid too :)

the video
there was very little planning to the video. I just like juxtaposing video and music and just seeing if, and if so where, they intersect. these worked somehow. glad you enjoyed the track.

Ambient
Not an expert neither. I can't say much except that I liked it a lot (special for first music in the morning). The spectrum is well covered, no dissonances, the mix is great.
A nice touch is the human factor: the ambient music I know is mostly synths. Here there's somebody.
Just an idea cause you are thinking of a cd and you'll need some variation. A touch I like in ambient music is drums of some kind (could be latin, indian, arabic). Kassia has a good one in that style as open collab (http://www.macjams.com/song/60493). I saw a couple of nice tracks developing from there.

excellent advice
I love the hang drum and have been looking for a plug-in or perhaps making one (based on a design I've seen online). It's got a beautiful sound and you're right, it would suit this ambient stuff perfectly. I'll get back to you on that...

admirable
leap into the genre which I know next to nothing about. like the idea of time stretching software but don't know a thing about that either, I just want it, after listening to this gem. You have a golden touch Dan. The vid is absolutely beautiful and poetic in a very understated way, much like the music. Wanted it to all become clear at the end, what it all was, the ultimate answer, the distillation, but that would be too easy, and not after-all, really, the point. Open ended-ness is what it is. Learning to love the void.

Wow!
This is a terrific ambient piece for a first-timer who claims to know nothing about ambient. Methinks you must be a good musician ;-)
Cheers, and thanks for the d/l.
