Heartbeat with James Holliday

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Based on an earlier upload, James added his voices and in a very nice melody I think, specially like the chorus. The voices in the outro and break were James idea, I love it! No idea what people think of it, but to me this one allways brings a smile on my face :-)

It is a work in progress, not sure about the break and the outro may be too long, so let us know pls?

Very cool
Are you stealing my techniques you sonova?! Just kidding. Sounds great. Love the tone your voice has on this track. I would save these setting for your vocals for future reference. (save instrument in garageband).

I like this modern iteration of James. Sounds good!

Egbert, great
job on this backer too. Took James in a totally different direction. Love the tone and the feel of it.

Wow!
well first off let me say to Charles I literally learned everything I know about recording from you and always try to emulate you! And you are all over this song, everything I tried was inspired by you and your techniques, and even the (Battlestar Galactica series recording which I bought on your suggestion) was just what I was watching as I was mixing this down and literally heard that through the mic and rewound it and hit record so it has absolutely nothing to do with this song but I loved it and just sent Egbert all these vocals just ideas along with that and HE did an amazing job putting this all together honestly I thought it sucked until just now, this was my first listen to this mix and I absolutely love it! This is all Egbert I just got lucky with some goofy ideas that Egbert made into something really cool!

Heartbeat with James Holliday
I like it. This is a different sound from James. I like the wide spread between voices (pitch). Nice changes. The bass does strike me as odd in places (2:02 for example) and the kick drum seems harsh. But I think you have the start of a very good song.

Bass
Well, I will have to refine the bass, or maybe let somebody do a real bass line for this one.. Thanks!

Heartbeat
There is an unconventional change on bar 3 of the "A" section, but the melody seems to be working pretty well with it now. The "B" section (chorus) works a lot better then the earlier version of this song. Terrific range on the vocal, and the background "la la s " are effective. Like the clean channel riffing and the bubbling bass line. The spoken voices sound kind of cool not really sure what they have to do with the rest of the song.

Very good
The vocals are just fine--great job there! I do think the music may need a little refinishing but it seems like the advice I'd have offered has already been voiced by other listeners. Look forward to any changes you make to this!

Egbert
I love the way you think melodically, very different from the norm. As we have discussed before, I think if you could solidify your percussion or drum tracks (even get a real drummer) on what you are producing you could really excel...just my opinion. Along with a solid bassline a more defined drum track would set up a "base" for everything else...Nice job James, I really like your ability to write a melodic hook. Nice one guys.

Maybe
You could play the bass line? I totally agree on what you are saying, in general guitar is the only instrument I can handle reasonably :-)

I really like this guys! I think it's got a really cool dischord feel to it. Almost has a Pinback type feel to it. I dug the laid back bassline. It added a really cool feel to it. I would try retracking the outro part of the bassline to try and tighten up the screws a little bit. One other note on the production side; if at all possible I would try running an eq on the kick drum and cutting some of the high edge off. Overall I really like this peice guys. Well done.

Awesome
I think you guys make a terrific team. And although JD has a unique voice, I can hear the "Charles" style on this which I think is so great. Awesome stuff!

Thanks folks!
Andrew, Dave, Michael, Chris, Cyrus, Dani, bandit, and Harold, I think everybody can see how much I love to write to Egbert's music, this was something I never would have thought of in a million years,
without his unique style of music, sooooo much fun! Thanks for listening and commenting, Jd.

Very tight job
The long outro could be good if a DJ is going to tackle this and mix out. I enjoyed the vocal processing, absolutely. Very cool sound.

Casual space
The casual style, the talking, the All The World Needs Now vibe, as calming and leaves space for memory to kick in. Cool idea. I like the collage thing you're starting. If you add more, it might be ok. WOuld make a nice video background, lots of images come to mind.

Nice Production
Hi Egbert, I enjoyed this one. A bit U2ish with the drums and Jd's vocals hit like Bono's. Very nice piece of work.
