Lyrics
Can't Let Go

We found each other in the morning haze
That first year brought to us such joy
With common friends we whiled away the days
It seemed like nothing could annoy

[refrain]
Well, I can't let go of that old feeling
when our hearts pushed through the ceiling
and soared on high with doves where the shore
met the blue sky of forevermore

We vowed one day to lift each other higher
no matter what each moment weighed
But then doubt's shadow made us sink into the mire
Harmonic waves began to fade

[refrain]
Well, I can't let go of that old feeling...

Now I dream upon my love
Where is she tonight?
Now I drift upon the sea
Is her vessel in sight?

They say that time anneals the fragile soul
That whispered prayers will soon erase
But I am heedless to the final toll
I summon forth your precious face

[refrain]
Well, I can't let go of that old feeling...

Thanks, Ciasm. Falsetto is a dangerous maneuver for a bass-baritone. Glad you like it!

Re-mastering
Are you going through your complete back catalog with re-mastering intentions? That would represent a huge task!

This sounds amazingly pristine to my ears. But then, most of the tracks I produce tend to be muddy. Like the song title, I can't let go of wanting to add more and more and then a little bit more. This piece is virtuous in its sweet economy.

Nice singing. I love how the high voice turns "tonight" into a six-syllable word : )

Re-mast
Yes, a little coloratura never hurts a song...unless you overdo it or don't do it right. Thanks for giving this a listen. For comparison, the 2007 release is here: http://www.macjams.com/song/32713

I did manage to get a purer, cleaner sound by tweaking EQ, compression and reverb in Logic Studio 8. Originally "mastered" in Logic LE 7.

intentions
P.S. I'd like to remaster all 11 Steiner-Anselm-Schletty songs and throw up an album at iTunes Store.

Can't Let Go
Thanks, John. Less is more, they say. Trying to follow that dictum.

I really like this melody and style, as well as your vocals, lyrics and playing. The falsetto really works here, too!

Heart
Not sure what to do with my countertenor adventures. Matt Cramer would rather have me be true to my natural bass voice. He wants me to sing Amazing Grace an octave lower!
