Time's A River

Description
Ballad? Easy Listening? Cheesy attempt at sentiment?

I recently bought a second-hand bass guitar and decided to give it a try on this song instead of using one of the garageband bass sounds.

I tried putting in some drum sounds but nothing sounded right, so I left them out entirely. Not sure if the right drum sounds would add to the song.

Lyrics
I went out with a friend or two
I saw you, you saw me too
You looked away
I held my gaze
There was light shining all around you
I'm so glad I found you
Please don't say you're leaving here so soon

Take my hand, come dance with me
Tell me about you, I'll tell you about me
I like your smile
How it lights your eyes
It's never felt so easy
Talking with you is so pleasing
I feel like I have known you all my life

Chorus:

We had the life, we had the love
Had a million stars, watching us from above
Time's a river that doesn't last
It starts out slow, then it moves too fast

A baby boy, he's so so small
I can't believe we made him at all
He has your eyes, he has your smile
My life feels so complete now
Do you ever think about how
We danced that night so many years ago

Away to school, we wave and smile
When he pulls away, you cry for a while
And in his room, I look around
I still remember that day
When we brought him home to stay
I wonder if he's thinking about us too

Chorus

It was our son, who made the calls
I wasn't so strong after all
You looked so good
And so at peace
I saw light shining all around you
I'm so glad I found you
I wish you weren't leaving here so soon

Chorus

Doesn't need drums
Glad you stayed away from the gb bass and used your own, such a nice musical blend! Beautiful love song.

very human
i like this. great song. not overly sentimental, just very human

the closed cycle of the lyrics works very well

if you put drums in, it would need to be very laid back, perhaps only light fills is all...

thanks! well done!

wish the vocals were just a tad more up-front... although it got better towards the end

the final strings needs to fade or have long reverb tail in my opinion

Thanks
for listening. Hating the sound of my own voice, I always struggle with volume levels on the vocals. Appreciate the comments!

This is a really soft, easy listen! I love it just the way it is. Your voice is as soft as the song itself. The guitar is nice too. I love guitar!

Now I just have to look up what a chromatic passing chord is - so I can do it again!

Great vocals
and some terrific instrumentation on a good song. You remind me of Nolan another MJer I did some collabs with a few years ago.
Love the vocal arrangement. Minimal drums might work, but why boter? Sounds fine as it is.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

I like your song. Some good lyrics and inst. The vocal could be louder in the mix. I think you do the Bass justice. Much better than with Midi. I didn't miss the drums at all. I like the strings at the end but you cut the end of the song too abruptly. Here I am nit picking again.

This is a life lesson
Nice harmonies. I did not read anything "cheesy"; actually some pretty astute observations about that look when you just "know", That feeling when you have finally "arrived" at your destination, the important things in life that you realize as you find them, and how time chips away at our blessings. Nicely done!
