Lyrics
Joey - The Overeators

Joey ran away to the big city, searching for easy success
All he wanted was a Wall Street Z and a fancy penthouse address.
He got his money and he got his wheels, but he still felt a bit depressed
So he hit the street, looking for love; found a woman in a gold lame' dress.

When you got it, you don't want it
When you don't got it, you really really want it!

When you got it, you don't want it
When you don't got it, you really really want it!

Now Joey had his fame, fortune, love, and respect
Thought he had everything made
Gave him a party at a posh discoutique when it was over he Knew he'd get laid
To escape his boredom, he cut for some air
He's ready to end this charade,
Sees an old man dressed in rags and decides that he wants to trade.

When you got it, you don't want it
And when you don't got it, you really really want it!
Joey pulls out his wallet, the keys to his Z
Without hesitation he says,
"Hey buddy, make a trade with me. I'll help you out of this mess."
The old man grins, looks hiim straight in the eye; understands Joey's distress,
"You must be crazy! I'd rather die! I got no one but ME to impress!"

When you got it, you don't want it
When you don't got it, you really really want it!

As I listened to this
I found it strangely addictive... It didn't take long before my foot was tapping and I was feeling pretty good about the song. Very addictive.

that's a good groove, connie.
loved the "gold lame dress" line.
i like the hard hitting music - and this sounds like a great key for your vocal. trading places is a cool concept!

Really Good Song
for an old recording this is rather good, I like the overall feel of the song, the performances, vocals and lyrics. The song has a fresh naivete about it and I enjoyed it...

Nice
This is a well written song, and your vocals are spot on, especially with the harmonies. I appreciate the message in the lyrics as well. The key is to enjoy life, but don't become attached to it. Thanks for posting (I know I'm late to this party).
