I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is a tune written in 1935 by Fred Ahlert and Joe Young (who was immortalized in the film "Mighty Joe Young" in 1949) and first introduced by Fats Waller and performed by many others since then (including a memorable recording by Hash Brown and Slash Marx in 1955. Many people were killed). I'd posted this song last year but this is a new version I recorded while on a short vacation last week. And Ted23, in case you listen, the second "oh-yeah" is for you!

Thanks again and take care now,

Michael

Oh no!
You are! Yanno, I was hoping you wouldn't stop to listen to thissun so close to going to sleep and possibly experiencing weird, Daliesque postal-type dreams and stuff. You know how to live dangerously Impsie; this I must concede! Thanks again--and hope you're feeling better really soon! xox

Letter
Have always loved this tune. Hash Brown? Tee hee. Great moniker. This arrangement is surreal: Spike Jones meets Mantiovani at the Baja Marimba Band Ranch??. I love what you do with these old chesnuts, Michael. Oh yeah!

Hi ya John!
Don't forget "The Melachrino Strings"--I remember the very first stereo set I ever got (primitive and pretty inexpensive compared to what the kids get today) as a gift from my dad for winning a piano competition. I'll never forget: it came with a FREE Mantovani 8-track tape! Actually, his stuff was not THAT bad really (the best in that line really was Andre Kostelanetz). Thanks again for listening and the kind words John--and man oh man, is it like January out here already or what?!!! Stay warm! Michael

Oh Yeah!
Of course I listen and i'll take all the "oh yeahs" I can get right now. THANKS!
Yeah this is the best song Shakin Stevens ever wrote. I think i mentioned that on your previous version. This Is my fave of yours. Possibly because I've known and loved this song since I was a kiddywink. You sound great on this and completely at home. At one with da music! Oh Yeah!
michaeljayklein said 3127 days ago (December 2nd, 2010)
Yeah?
Hey Ted--I didn't remember this was a favorite of yours, so that's a good thing because I record this maybe twice a year (hoping to get a fresh arrangement from Mr. McPike this month maybe!) Didn't Shakin' Stephens also pen that IMMORTAL jazz classic, "Must Be Jelly Cuz Jam Don't Shake like Dat"? I may be incorrect in that assumption however! Thanks for the kind remarks and for the big boost you give me Ted--one more day over here and then it's SATURDAY (and none too soon, let me tell you, ugh!) You take care now, Michael

Oh yeah
So when you doing "Ain't misbehaving" and "Don't let it bother you"? Another for the old geezer to enjoy when he hears it. I really enjoyed it myself I have to say although I'm struggling to remember whose version I have of this. Other than yours of course! Incidentally, was speaking to the self same old geezer who suggested you might like to do "Busy Line" by Rose Murphy if you know it. Great version Michael. Loved it!

Hi Stephen
Oh, that first song--that was a favorite of my dad's. I remember playing it on the piano as he sat in the kitchen reading his newspaper and after I finished I would always hear the same response, "Michael, that was nice" (my dad was not one for glowing adjectives--"nice" was as good as it got with him!) I do know "Busy Line" and "Don't Let it Bother You" and hoping that when I get set up with an electric keyboard, I can do those and some of the other songs that I have no backings for (or refuse to spend money on--some of those things I use cost plenty, let me tell you!) My favorite Fats recordings however are (believe this or not), "Dinah" and "There'll Be Some Changes Made" (and his "Jingle Bells" is a must--"Put down that pint bottle Santa, we reindeer am waiting on you!") Send my regards to the old geezer and thanks again Stephen for listening and the nice endorsement from you! Michael

Hi Dave
Well, you are a whiz at creating music so you've been compensated! Me, I do well with reading, spelling, etc., but I have a diagnosed and proven 3rd grade aptitude for math (and that's not changed since the 3rd grade, I swear on my grandmother's paisley shawl!) Glad you liked this deal and hope you are feeling better and taking very good care of yourself Dave--take care now! Michael

Thanks Dave
I always endeavor to make these things a little better than some guy singing to "prerecorded" music (although really, any time someone does a collab with someone else, it's kind of the same thing, but you know what I mean!) Very appreciative of your encouragement and continued warm support Dave--you take care now! Michael

Asides
Hi Michael. Ted hit the nail on the head - you are completely at home with this form of music but you make it your own by injecting your own humour and asides to complement your fantastic vocals. Liked it a lot. Take care. Peter.

Well, such kind words from you--an artist who already has sold me on his work just within the few weeks he's been here--that is such a great compliment to me Peter. Thank you many times over (and do keep up the solid stuff you're putting out!) Take care now! Michael

Actually the all-time greatest version of this was done by Billy Williams, whose trademark ("Oh yeah"!) I appropriated for this deal (he was a terrific song stylist and his recordings are very well worth seeking out by the way!) Glad you could stop by and again, appreciate (as always) your warm reception to my stuff here! Take care now! Michael

Oh dear ,so pleasant
and yet so delusiomal, really you should speak to someone in the medical Profession ...unless of course you are qualified ...in which case you may as well self diagnose ,self prescribe and self evidence yourself that you are totally sane and that it is me who has the problem.......
