Description
I feel really guilty for not putting more time and effort into my songs. I've been listening to the great musicians on MacJams and I'm inspired to try and do a little better. I don't like the GarageBand drums so I bought the Drums on Demand Vol. 1 after reading about it on this site. I added those drums to this song, used some of the timing and tuning features in GB for the first time ever, and completely remixed trying to get some spatial differentiation to the sound. I'm sick of my songs sounding like mud. The problem is I'm insecure so I tend to layer way too much garbage on. the new dimm witness project back is supposed to achieve a less cluttered, more authentic sound. for the life of me this is a real struggle ;-) but it's still fun!

Lyrics
ahh - my life's a book
ahh - take a look
ahh - a little to the left
ahh - throw me right off the cleft

my life it's an open book
come and laugh and have a look
step on inside
I got nothin' to hide

ahh - as soon as you are able
ahh - leave it right here on the table
ahh - as far as you are
ahh - get sick in the car

my life it's an open book
come and laugh and have a look
step on inside
I got nothin' to hide

why even try to even try to try
why even try to even try to try
why try

my life it's an open book
stop and laugh and have a look
step on inside
I got nothin' to hide

why even try to even try to try
why even try to even try to try
why why why why why why why ahh

Yes
I fully understand. Getting more space and less mud is tough for me.

There are some really awesome musicians on this site. I hear some of them sometimes and it makes me realise how far I still have to go.

But you're right... it is fun and that's exactly why I keep persisting.

I really like this song. The chord structure and progressions are great. The drums sound pretty good. (That's the thing that makes me cringe is drum programming time). Good stuff.

keep Going
at the end of the day it's not a competition although to be fair we all tend to judge ourselves aginst others. Although your voice is not "conventional" it has a really appealing character to it which makes your stuff original and engaging. As for the mixing and stuff, I listen to some of my early stuff and cringe but it's a journey we are all on. Cheers Mark

thank you
every band I was in they made me sing. I have a one octave baritone. the one bar band I played in they made me sing the high parts. a nightmare. the final gig I did with them I knew I was done and refused to sing the high harmony on double vision. ended up in a fistfight with the lead guitarist. I lost lol

I like jim Morrison and Ian Curtis so there you go. same range hopefully not as dark ;-)

no complaints here
Actually I think the mix sounds pretty darn good.
the acoustic guit. riff with the piano sounds quite cool and original. I like the loud bass - it rocks.
I like your voice and lyrics too. It reminds me a bit of Jad Fair or someone like that (lower pitched though).
applause!

thank u!
I dont know who that is I'll look him up ;-)

glad you can hear the guitar for whatever reason I can't -- I might readjust some levels and fix the bass a little.

I appreciate the kind words you guys :-D very encouraging

ok
jad fair indie no-wave -- uncategorizable but covers elevators and doors so all good! I got compared to the butthole surfers singer a couple years ago too :-)

there's something to be said I think for particular bands like the residents who just do what they do and don't care what anyone thinks. like devo said play what you like and your audience will find you ;-)
