Strange Song

 Genre: Acoustic

This is a strange song. It is also a hissy one, at least to start with, tending to fade into the background as the song progresses. Apologies for that, but i hope the material transcends it. i don't know whether it is the sounds of religious music both old and new on this site lately that have prompted me to offer this strange addition of mine, but deep calleth unto deep, they say, or something like that!

Strange Song

Strange as around me, terrors remain,
Strange with the fear and the burden of pain,
Strange with the nightmares that sleep in my brain,
Strange as I see them again and again,
Again and again,

Strange how inside, another world turns,
Strange how the love, blazes and burns,
Blazes and burns..

Strange in the dark that I can’t understand,
Strange in this cruel and dispassionate land,
Strange on this crumbling, unfeeling strand,
Strange on the alien, alien sand,
Alien sand,

Strange how I feel that all will be well,
Strange how I know, but I cannot tell,
I cannot tell..

Strange this body, this shell and its needs,
Strange how it hungers and battles and bleeds,
Strange how it’s born and grown from a seed,
Strange it’s not me in word or in deed,
Strange it’s not me,

Strange how I feel, that I don’t belong,
Strange how I hear, a homecoming song,
Homecoming song,
Homecoming song…

is just about the recording tools, the essential is there. Awesome song, as usual great vocals.

Thanks, Yves, i am relieved that the hiss wasn't fatal. Relieved, too, that you didn't find it too strange!

Cheers for the listen and the comment!

This is a very plaintive, melancholy piece, and boy, could I relate to the lyrics so very well (I felt exactly like this throughout the day--I see you know the feeling too!) Beautifully done--the harmonies, guitar, your voice, all aces. As for that hiss--you know, to me it sounded like the patter of light rain and so in a way, it actually HELPED set the mood up for the song (honestly!) Thanks for sharing this--definitely a keeper for me. Michael

Excellent work on this, lyrics are thoughtful, acoustic guitar is beautiful and appropriately haunting, lead guitar has nice note selection but sounds a bit harsh for the mood (my only beef), vocal delivery is haunting, especially the harmony sections. Really nice. Hiss is no problem actually.

Thanks, Reggie!
Nice of you to stop by and leave a comment. Glad you found it worth the visit!

The way the guitar comes in is a bit of a jar, i admit, and it was in mind at the time that it might be a bit disjointed. i think i would still have built up to a rather ecstatic finale on the solo, because despite the haunted, anxious feel of the verses, there is a very bright element shining through (as the harmonies convey) but i think i could have been more subtle about it. Maybe one of these days i will go back and see what Garageband can do with it!

Thanks again for the listen.

Cheers now

Hi Karen
Thanks for listening and the positive review. Was afraid the hiss would put people off, but very glad that it hasn't proved fatal.

Have a good Christmas!

I like two of you
singing together. The hiss makes me think you're singing in a space that isn't totally quiet, like outdoors or in a space occupied by others. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed it. Thanks.

Hiss Alright
Glad you liked this one. Seemed to me rather a long shot, but no accounting for the tastes of those who haunt this site!

I suppose the background noise does make it sound as thought it were outside, though i didn't think of that at the time.

You have encouraged me greatly by taking the time to listen to my songs. Thank you so much.

that was beautiful! the thoughtfully played guitar and the strokes of string together with your voice are gorgeous. your harmony is wonderful. can't say i go for the introduction of the electric voice - but that's a teensy nit and just my opinion only. it's a very fine tune, and the hiss was forgotten in the first measure. i enjoyed your poignancy, anne

hiss not over yet!
Thanks for going back into the archive to dig this one out, Anne!

Glad it was worth looking into for you.

i always thought that the introduction of the guitar was a bit of a jar, too, though i liked the way it made the second theme so ecstatic. May go yet go back and fiddle around with it.

Thanks for your thoughts. Much appreciated!
