Description
Kassia recently uploaded a tune called Dancing Monks http://www.macjams.com/song/65183

Bryn surreptitiously downloaded the mp3 and began to filter and morph the original by adding layers upon layers of improvised guitars and a simple beat played on a sampled bongo.

After letting it sit in the shared APOD dropbox folder for a short time - kevin and michael added further ingredients

Bryn pushed the song in a particular direction which michael2 developed further and recently posted as the film noir dubby 'Les Gammes de Voix' - http://www.macjams.com/song/65388

However, Bryn's original intention was closer to this version

Miscellaneous APOD correspondence went something like this:

"It’s a slab of sound (as opposed to a wall) and doesn’t really go anywhere…but I think there are some interesting timbres in there"

"jeez you guys have been busy. The Series of Slab sounds phenomenal. I like the guitar a lot. I think SLAB2 may be my favorite. Love the Eno sounding guitar, beautiful with this."

"The slab of sound is not really meant to be anything (at the moment at least)…I just wanted to see if it might be worth trying to build upon kassia’s throwaway (she says) piece. I thought of a couple of guitar ideas for it in a major key before I put that dubby minor synth chord in there….i will probably strip it all down again and try a guitar based version"

"I’m afraid to go near the slab files – there is so much beauty there already – not sure what I might add. Bryn – the guitar stuff you are doing is brilliant."

"Added to the slab - in the pod - steel bowed bass - ebowed bass - tambourine and ankle bells - This project is very cool and Shay would be thrilled by it"

"Re the slab series - that's a great moniker btw - I just overlaid lots
of different guitar sounds...i was thinking it might be cool to go back and edit the best bits ala eno's approach on the milk craft sessions..."

Dancing Monks by Kassia
Improvised Guitar shards by particledots
Insistent bongo by particledots
Ankle bells by bud
ebow bass and steel bowed bass by bud

michael2 was there in spirit on this track and was certainly involved in how it developed and evolved

Inspired by Eno's approach to making his recent album called 'Small Craft on a Milk Sea' where performances were improvised and then edited later to give some form of structure and coherence

slab 6a is one of many mixes inspired by or incorporating Kassia's 'Dancing Monks' track that are sitting in the APOD lab at the moment

Hope you like this iteration shay

Enjoy

Excellent work Bryn
the bloom that happens around 2:45 - 3:00 is exquisite. The guitar work is also inspired. 6a is pretty good considering the endless possibilities - didn't we have a song that made it to mix 11?
