Description
Well, it's been awhile since I've posted anything. This is a song I just finished up for a song contest. I was rushed for the entry deadline, so I have some changes I want to make and I wanted to post it here for some other quality input. (Something I can always depend on the MacJams community for!) I hope you enjoy this one.

Lyrics
Let's Drive

I know what you're thinking
We could leave this all behind
Yeah we'll just point this car toward some western star
And chase it 'cross the sky (so come on)

Just roll the windows down
So the night can have it's say
Hear this old highway hum
Like some forgotten song
Through this star-lit promenade (why don't we)

Drive until we're running out of road ahead
And these white lines that lead us leave us on the coast somewhere
We'll be ok, starting now,
Cause where we go from here's part of figuring out
How to find the missing pieces of this life
So let's drive

Headlights keeping marching on
We watch this world that never sleeps
And wonder what they'd say
About this choice we've made
And these secrets that we keep (we move on)

So Goodbye to our yesterdays
As morning fades from black to blue
Don't know just what we'll find
Past that horizon line
Wouldn't stop us if we knew (and so we)

Drive until we're running out of road ahead
And these white lines that lead us leave us on the coast somewhere
We'll be ok, starting now,
Cause where we go from here's part of figuring out
How to find the missing pieces of this life

Drive until we're running out of road ahead
And these white lines that lead us leave us on the coast somewhere
We'll be ok, starting now,
Cause where we go from here's part of figuring out
How to find the missing pieces of this life
So let's drive

Hey!
long time...! Hope you are well

Cool song, John - a bit countryfried style in the vocal that is appealing and pleasant.

Thanks, Harold
I tried to avoid the twang in the voice, but it comes out without warning. Hope it didn't affect the tone of the song to much. Thanks for the feedback!

Fabulous vocals

the song gave me shades of Fleetwood Mac with some Roy Orbinson.. that opening line reminds me of some singer from the 80s I can't place... it's all done brilliantly and I like all those influences. Great job, good luck with the contest. I think you could give Alex Band a run for his money too.

The mix...
The mix is one of my primary issues with it "as is". It was just so rushed to get it submitted. I will keep an ear on the synth keys when I go back and tweek the mix. Thanks!

I would
not change anything for artistic reasons -but consider having the vocals come in earlier for the contest. Nice groove

Never thought of that
You know, that's an EXCELLENT idea...except that I literally posted the song at the deadline. However, it's something I didn't really consider before...creating a different edit for the contest. I will definitely keep it in mind next time. Highly appreciated!

Suggestions?
Steel guitar, or a taste full slide pushing the vocals.
Perhaps you could do a bit of reverb to add some depth to the vocals, you could split the image as well and move the vocal a bit with some panning.
Great tune.

Enjoyed the song
Reminds me of Rob Thomas. The lyrics and vocals fit well with the ballad style music bed. I can see this as successful. Congratulations, I hope you win.

Thanks, sir.
Always appreciate your input. They'll announce a final pool of songs in about a month, and then it's head-to-head voting. Would love to go all the way, but making that list is my current goal.

I think you got a great song
here that needs and deserves some polishing, excellent chorus, my first big concern if I were a judge would be that you got a great hook but only use it twice, and then on the outro, but what makes a song stick is that hook and it's really good so I'd like to hear it more, you have a nice quality to your voice, this recording is a little pitchy, that of course needs to be fixed, but the backer is great, I'd really go the extra mile and really work this one, based on some really good feedback, of course from a few people whose ideas you trust, but I definitely could here Rob Thomas doing this song!

Excellent points. Highly appreciated. One that I knew was the outro...it's really thin as it is, but wasn't sure what to do with it...so repetition is probably the answer. One driving issue was that, while I worked the music for a month or so, I finished the lyric, recorded, 'mixed' it and sent it out in about 5 hours (procrastination on my part, of course). Polishing is an understatement...I truly appreciate the constructive input.

Going somewhere?
I like the story and the searching/mystery. Certainly a universal theme that we can all relate to. This style needs more backing vocals (for my ear at least). The melody is extremely catchy and I think you have some good hooks too.

Thanks for the download :)
