Description
Another of John's wonderfully constructed and performed ballads. The humble guitar player was not worthy!

Thanks, man!
Nice of you to mention the guitarist!

I'll make sure John gets to hear of it. He's usually on another planet!

Cheers for listening,

Marc

Hi JD!
Thanks for coming across in this direction. Glad you liked the song.

It is our ship in the pic, the 'City of Westminster', or a bit of the wheelhouse anyway, with an air sea rescue helicopter buzzing overhead. They do a few exercises with us now and then and the last time, someone took a few good snaps.

Cheers now

Good song
Careful with the vocals: sometimes your emotion runs away with your intonation. For instance 1:19 is doubtful, as is 1:30-1:33. (And 2:02) Do you sing while playing the guitar?

Run away
Thanks for listening and leaving a good criticism.

This was a duet, actually, with myself on guitar and John on vocal. The circumstances were hardly ideal for getting his voice down, but hopefully something still comes through. It sounds okay to me, but that is probably because i have heard it so many times it seems normal now!

Thanks again for the valuable imput. i know John wanted to re-record it.

Maybe we'll sail together soon and do something about it.

Cheers now

You recorded while sailing?
That's pretty amazing that it sounds so clean. Your guitar is beautiful. John's voice is warm. The song is worth re-recording, sometime. Thanks.

Ship Studio
Well, we were alongside, but a ship is pretty noisy even then! The guitar tracks i could do at home, so they are pretty clean, but John's voice had to be taken down there and then. We live 300 miles apart when we're ashore (a long way in the UK!).

i think there is a great song there, too, and one day we might get around to doing it justice. Probably need to find a proper guitarist!

Thanks for listening

I Love You
Not often a song has me from the get-go, this is magic. Reading the profile on the side just noticed the man Marc is in this. Love this duo right up my alley, well done

Shedfish is a collaboration between John Grout and Marc Rattue, seafarers both, and in the time we sailed together, we somehow managed to get around the ambient racket and vibration of a ship's motion (recorded vocal tracks at anchor or alongside) an... [see more]
