Description
I always think it's interesting when people upload old stuff they did back in the day. so I've done that with this challenge. I've been recording music since 1979 but don't worry I didn't go back that far :-) this is from 1999 when I was still dim with one m lol. anyway I taught myself guitar in 1996 and immediately started playing around town anywhere they'd let me -- bars, coffee houses, finally got a regular gig at an all-ages venue. played there between acts for a couple years. I have vids my now wife took, and I can assure you I WAS TERRIBLE! lol. but oh well, if you'd been at The Gate circa 1998 this is what you might have heard. this was actually recorded I don't know where. but I was at home. either in the garage I lived in for 4 years or the trailer I moved up into. lol. I have no idea what the lyrics are. I always just made them up as I went along. thanks for the 2 track challenge, and everyone who participated. I vote for the cheese grater.

nice guitar work
Really.

It's good to know that the lyrics are not just a mystery to me. It sounds a bit like a backward tape in places.

:-D
I just played and sang back then without a thought to what anyone would think! there was a great deal of freedom in that. I sort of miss the era -- except for the poverty. I miss having time to play guitar hours a day

It is
cool to hear what you were up to before you acquired a second m. Hey, dreams don't make sense when we wake up from them so, "Me, I live to feel my dreams" works. Thanks.

I have no clue! Jon Anderson said it doesn't matter what you say but how you say it!

thank you ;-)

The test of time...
Hi Eddie. There is a simplicity about an acoustic guitar accompanying a single vocalist that has stood the test of time. Good to hear what you were into in 1999. So last century :-) The challenge now is to post the lyrics! Thanks for sharing your music. Warm regards, Peter.

Just a dream 1999
That second m is very underrated. I like this has a cool indie unplugged vibe, kinda Oasis, Stone Roses etc nice work dude!

Somehow I thought
that all lyrics were made up as you go along ...this could explain more about me as a dickhead than a musician....it is all so clear to me now......love this it is a bit Steve Howe (Yes) and some guy who just wandered in and had a "go" at the lyrics and they both pulled it off........

Cracking good job

yes!
seen em live a bunch I love Wakeman Howe Anderson and squire. caught em in 78 10 true summers long they were there and laughing too :-) first and last time I'll be compared to steve I'm sure lol. he could break all his fingers on both hands and outplay me lol. funny thing in 96 and into 97 I could freestyle rhymes pretty well and they sort of made sense. by 99 that was gone gift or whatever it was.

thanks buddy ;-)

Interesting
Guitar work is really interesting. I hear bits of Supertramp, but only bits. I love the idea of making up lyrics as you go along, while you are recording!!. It's edgy song writing. Do you do that live too? Man that would confuse the punters!! Especially the singalong ones! Love it.

supertramp!
loved them up til breakfast. saw the crime of he century tour. as a clarinet player I was especially pleased. they were too good for our little town. muddy waters or fats domino I forget who said you should never sing the lyrics too clearly. drives my wife nuts. I cleared rooms I can assure you. even if I knew lyrics I'd blank out and forget anyway lol

thanks ;-)

I think I stole it
from old man by Neil young maybe thank him lol. I still only know 3 chords but knew em better back then. I slept with my guitar and took it everywhere. I didn't smoke either and had about 3 notes more range to my baritone. still droned with no sense of melody. I think theorists call it monadism? oh well.

thanks jd :-D

This is much better than I think you realize. The guitar tone is quite good. You have a very cool melody happening in your vocal and your pitch is quite good. Thanks for sharing a bit of your past!

I'll spare you
the stacks of cassettes I made those years. I'll be redoing those songs from that era til I drop dead. you know Andrew I might have done this on two track reel at the radio station before I was commanded to leave my guitar at home. it's dubbed on cassette and a crummy one at that I had no money for the maxells.

thanks for the challenge the songs are all great!

Since
you didn't write any lyrics, it must be a case of 'tales from the subconscious'.... your guitar playing sounds great and it sounds really good, cheers M

Marbles :)
I thought it was just Nirvana that I couldn't understand in those days. Seriously, the guitar work is nice and the feel of the lyrics isn't bad. I was recently in Copenhagen listening to music in a bar that I had no friggin idea of what the lyrics were, so.....not that weird really!

was is demosthenes
or someone like that who spoke with marbles in his mouth for decades, took them out and became the greatest orator in the world?! with or without marbles I can't sing lol. play this in that pub when you travel back maybe they can translate :-) remember the flintstones hum along with Herman for people who don't know the words
-- love nirvana ;)

thanks mike
