Description
This is one I cooked up awhile ago that I had a lot of fun with. I'm having a bit of trouble with the bass though - it seems that when I try and tone down how deep it sounds, it disappears into thin air. I thought I'd share and try and get some feedback and/or suggestions.

michael2 said 2531 days ago (March 20th, 2011)
nice
i like the bass, sounds really warm and full (at least on my headphones). if you want more air to it, maybe you can try mixing in another track of the same bass but with all of the bottom end EQed out of it. this is produced so well, the strings are perfect and all of the rhythmic touches are great. i would be really pleased if i pulled this one out of my hat.

Hi Michael
So, it sounds ok? I'm going to try your suggestion...I don't know, maybe I've just listened too much...to the point of over-analyzation. It really makes me feel good to read your comments, thank you so much!!

or
if you're on Logic, just use a bus with a different EQ setting and blend to your liking.

Excellent atmosphere
I love that this appears simple and bare bones, yet it has a ton of depth and a street smart vibe. Cool song. I think the bass sounds just fine as is.

concrete jungle
Personally I like deep bass. I like the mood of this track and it is well constructed and flows nicely. Im curious if it is all from loops or from home made samples. Either way very nice work.

Really great track - love all the disparate
elements working together. When I have trouble with getting a track to sit right I generally double it with different eq's and then adjust the two track levels till it feels right. With bass - if it's midi - I will often blend two different voices - say an up-right bass with a synth sub or something like that. But this actually sounds pretty good to me as it is. I think you're good and definitely got the right stuff.

Thank you Bud!
Thank you Bud for the fantastic suggestions, I will definitely try this. I can imagine that it would beef up the bass quite a bit doubling it up. It always seems to sound this way when trying to make my own bass sounds but I don't want to give up on it, I just knew there had to be a way to make it work. Thanks so much.
egobandit said 2524 days ago (March 26th, 2011)
off the hook
the violin builds are classsic, dee da dee, I get the same problem on bass, but being a bass player Im always over compensating its not easy to mix bass its either to much or not enough. I try not to mix with my headphones on but use the speakers in my mac and if the sound is good and the bass is right then I know its gonna be good no matter what the listener is listening thru. also Bud got it right with his suggestions doubling it up to give it more weight. Sometimes I will double up 2 bass tracks and pan them hard left an right so that it remains prominent in both ears. I think it held up good in this song I listened on my Mac speakers and it seemed good very cool song BTW thanks for the download

Hi EB...
Thank you for stopping in. You're right, Michael also mentioned this same technique. I do always tend to mix with headphones since my mac and external speakers aren't really the best so my bass always sound a bit too toned down to my ears. These are great suggestions and feedback...thanks everyone!! I can't wait to try it!

Thanks so much. I'm still working on more, and actually bouncing around way too much from one to the other. It's a wonder I get anything "done". lol

Hi Tracy.....
Your percussive rhythms are very hypnotic and they seem to draw me into your mixes. The sound quality is excellent. Everything crisp and easy to hear and listen to.

This could also be a Cinematic track or Film Music.

Take care.
