Tell Me Your Secret

Description
Inspired by an ex-friend of mine who had the most impressive pair of rose tinted glasses. Always used to envy the simplicity of his view and how nothing could ever get to him (everything gets to me).. since i knew him I know a lot of bad stuff has come to him so he may well have abandoned them since, but this song pays homage to that blissful and for me, elusive, ignorance

Lyrics
If there is a way
to smile in the face of it all gone bad
Wont you tell me your secret

The things around you are all changing
The trees are losing all their fruit
Still that smile of yours keeps raging
You fall but you've got your parachute
But for me, it keeps on getting harder
Its getting harder every day
So if there is a way

CHORUS

Even when the tide is turning
And i can feel it surrounding me
Even when I've got a bit of your positivity
I can still see
I can still see pain, I can still see loss
I can still see hurt
I can still see millions of people running round without a sense of worth
And this life, it just keeps getting harder
Its getting harder every day
So if there is a way

CHORUS

Good song
Like the way that there is an edge of desperation and pain in the music that complements the lyrics well. The harmonies in this context provide a sort of mad echo, to my ear, a slightly deranged reverberation.

Of all the mysterious things in this world, and there a rather a lot of them, one of the deepest surely the old human cerebellum. A line of T S Eliot's Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock comes to mind:

There will be time,
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet.

We give away so little of what is actually going on in our heads!

Cheers now. Enjoyed your song.

Whatta Voice
Wow, you have a beautiful voice. Honestly, although wonderfully sung, you really don't need the background harmonies. Your voice is strong enough to carry the whole tune without them. Fabulous performance!

thanks so much for the compliment!
I've never really considered my voice strong enough to not overdo backing vocals/vocal fx in order to compensate. I'm starting to come round to the idea that less is more. you've helped stoke the fire.. thanks for this!!

moody
Extremely cool how Secret is atmospheric in it's simplicity. Effective sparse and clean production on top. Good introduction Alex.

impact
I like the tenor guitar sound,,,Are you using a capo on a sixstring,or is that another instrument?..,It really matches the mood of the song.

hey j
this is where i admit to the world that i'm a big cheat! I rarely use an actual guitar cos my timings a bit hit and miss - so all of what you're hearing is programmed in 'Real Guitar'. For the high bit I just took the chords and transposed them up with a different pattern.

Or short answer.. equivalent to using a capo on same guitar :)

Expressive
Excellent song, very expressive vocal, and beautiful guitar accompaniment. The FX and mix work for me - although I think the fade out has been clipped, I'd have liked some more guitar rambling!
