The Great Goddess

Description
Go far enough back in the history of any land, before the emergence of reason and the confidence of men in the means of directing and understanding the ways of the earth and sky, and one finds evidence of a Great Goddess, who could bring forth life itself, nurture it, and in due time, take it back into Herself, in a mysterious and universally revered cycle of rebirth. This song is a hymn to Her pervasive and undying appeal, to the mystery that still clings to life, and the wells of spiritual force and emotional inspiration that still sway us all with chaotic, ancient potency in Her Divine Form and Perfect Physical Aspect.

Lyrics

The Great Goddess

In the beginning She was there,
Triple Goddess bright,
Mistress of the dawning day,
And the starry night,

Mighty Goddess affirming my life,
I fall before Your face,
Every woman Divine in my eyes,
Beauty and power and grace.

In every way, at every time,
In every land adored,
Every man her worshipper,
Their souls by Her restored,

Mighty Goddess…

Foe of every negative thing,
Bringer of passionate fire,
Burning in my worshipping heart,
Mistress of love and desire,

Mighty Goddess….

Beautiful Female Deity,
The ancient form Divine,
Ruling over every man,
From the birth of humankind.

The Great Goddess
Nice changes and melody. Picked guitar sounds good, background harmonies work well. Interesting topic, I'm wondering whether it will spark some controversy.

Controversial
Hi Dave!

Yes, i thought it might cause one or two ripples, and perhaps be a touch contentious.

i think being honest, that men have got to admit that this is one ancient power that still knocks them sideways every now and then?

Cheers now

Goddess
Marc, your songs are so complex for what is so simple and crisp a sound. This is no exception and your harmonies lock together beautifully. Those guitars panned to the sides fill the sound out beautifully and as the harmonies build up it sounds like a musical tapestry. I know from recent experience that's a lot harder than anyone appreciates so hats off to you. Beautiful song.

Really glad that you liked the song on its technical merits. Don't see myself as very gifted that way!

Thanks for listening and leaving your thoughts on this one!

Hi, Dani!
What can i say? It's a song about the timeless power and beauty of the Female gender, and so it is about you, of course, in a very real way.

Thought i might get a better press of the ladies on this one!

Thanks for listening!

Take care

Isis, mother Mary?
Just a simpleton guess. Whomever she is, has such beauty and grace. What a worthy tribute to the mighty patriarchs. Such a lovely and warm hearted feel to this piece. Is it a hymn? Excellent harmonies simply transported me to time long past. Im only sorry that it had to end. Thanks for sharing this piece. patty:)

Hi Patty!
Thanks for listening.

It is notable that Mary has such a massive cult following, especially in Catholicism, right in the middle of a supposedly male-dominated religion. I think the Great Goddess is just part of reality, and has many names in many different places and always will as long as the earth and humanity endure. This is a hymn, of a sort, to Her part in what we are, an acknowledgment too rarely offered in this way, i think.

Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed it so much.

Take care

Uncomplicated homage
Hi Marc. Boy do you tackle the big issues. This is an uncomplicated homage to the mysterious, divine force of womanhood. The simple arrangement and sincere vocals work really well. I always know I am going to get a different style of lyric from you. You are a storyteller first and foremost. Enjoyed. Warm regards, Peter.
