Description

Opens in Bb minor . . . total time 3 minutes 25 seconds -

L. & R. parts recorded at the same time.

Just possibly this tune could be entitled "Take 5 and 6" - ~ :

as far as this song goes - it was originally named for its time signature - being five quarter - or eighth notes per measure - each of those receiving one count - lopsided - within this improv./scherzo - I actually use six beats per measure more often - so it should be called take five and six .

Then too is is actually more of a Scherzo - or a funny jokish alteration in a sense - of course it is up to the song's describer - and their particular mood set while listening.

as you'll find mutations ~ ad-lib parts spliced into it -
Once catching Darius Brubeck's band "Heavenly Blues Band" in California back some time ago - may have slightly helped to jump-start a few new ideas - amongst many other acts and - and motivating ideas I came up with thoughout the years - they were doing a lot of improvisations / embellishments on this original Dave Brubeck Tune - we also did this one in jazz ensemble and on some other occasions. Bb minor take-offs leading to a more Chick Corea-like F section with a more ambient syncopated rhythm are also featured in another "take" and also found on "Inner Works" jazz - on our 1997 "World Majestic" C.D. (Jonte Tychman - percussion). . . as well as being on my hard drive/external and USB storage sticks. . . . ' good thing I have these other versions stored because my portable media played just croaked.

Recordings of this tune and others - are done on my old 1913 Baldwin Hamilton Grand - but they just don't quite cut the mustard . . . meaning - the neighbors don't mind - and it's been adjusted and tweaked and tuned numerous times and all -but once again I need better mics . . . like - as in - meaning - I need those Sennheisers and Nuemanns back again.

Possibly the phase timing and depth of the keyboard's slight chorus effect causes some tonal inconsistencies at times - trial and error seemed to make it better with than without however . . . making this comprised patch setting good enough to be saved to a RAM slot.

Scott, your playing is ridiculously good...being a bassist, I really enjoy your left hand technic. I listened to this twice, very enjoyable listens. The movements are separate and distinct but still flow nicely together. You are one talented cat! Thanks for this!

This is real nice playing. Great the way you have melted in the familiar.I like what happens at around 3:00 at the end it reminded me a little of Keith Jarrett Kohln Concert without the grunts and groans. Anyway, I don't know a whole lot about jazz but I know I like the way you play.

Waltzing with Brubeck
I totally dig interpretations like this, so removed from the original. Cool ideas. Love the waltzing sections.
