Stand Up and Sing! Then Sit Down and Shut Up

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is a live recording done during rehearsal of my hit off-Broadway show, "Move Your Feet" cowritten by myself and Weedy Dombrowski (and don't bother Googling it--nothing will show up)! You may remember this show as the American debut of famed Russian ballet dancer, Maria Ouspenskaya (known backstage as "Magic Fingers Maria", but I'm saving that story for my book!)

All seriousness aside, just having fun learning this MIDI business and working loops into the tracks as well (next up is an all-jug bottle and musical saw version of selections from "West Side Story").

Thanks again,

Michael

PS: Took this down to do a little tweaking--but thank you Scotty for the kind remark and stopping by to listen to this masterpiece!

Lyrics
Won't you bring back,
Won't you bring back
Mrs. Murphy's chowder?
It was tuneful,
Every spoonful
Made you yodel louder

After dinner Uncle Ben
Used to fill his fountain pen
From a bowl of
Mrs. Murphy's chowder

There was ice cream, cold cream,
Benzine, gasoline
Soup beans, string beans,
Floating all around
Sponge cake, beef steak,
Mistake, stomach ache
Cream puffs, ear muffs,
Many to be found
Silk hats, door mats,
Bed slats, Democrats
Cow bells, door bells,
Beckon you to dine
Meat balls, fish balls,
Moth balls, cannon balls
Come on in, the chowder's fine!

Won't you bring back,
Won't you bring back
Mrs. Murphy's chowder
It was tuneful,
Every spoonful
Made you yodel louder

If they had it where you are,
You might find a motor car
In a bowl of
Mrs. Murphy's chowder

There was ice cream, cold cream,
Benzine, gasoline
Soup beans, string beans,
Floating all around
Sponge cake, beef steak,
Mistake, stomach ache
Cream puffs, ear muffs,
Many to be found
Silk hats, door mats,
Bed slats, Democrats
Cow bells, door bells,
Beckon you to dine
Meat balls, fish balls,
Moth balls, cannon balls
Come on in, the chowder's fine!

Thank you for the entertainment here, I got all the excitement of sitting watching in awe. I guess you are teasing us with this taster and the I was sad not to hear the lyrics but I'll keep watching and listening and if I ever get my song passed you came reciprocate :)

Thanks SS
Hi Stage:

I was reading your profile while checking out the new members and look forward to your sharing your work with us--I love a musical too! Thanks again--and maybe I'll give this another go in the future. Basically what you heard was just what I made up as I went along so it would be nice to redo this and hit some of those bass chords in the beginning right next time! You take care now--Michael

You should be a teacher. It's clear from your recent MIDI experiments you know how to combine learning and fun! Not to mention the products are always impressive!

Thanks again Andrew!
Next thing I need to try next is layering stuff--fortunately on the keyboard, I can record, playback, then record on top of the foundation track and so on--this might be interesting, and hopefully, I can only get better. Right now I'm working on editing MIDIs, changing notes and so forth. Happy to hear from you--and take good care now, Michael

Stand up and Sing
Very cool and pretty amusing, the tapdancing adds a cool precussion, love the artwork aswell!!!

Thanks Neil
Hopefully I'll get more skilled at this in time but it's a start! I think my next plan is to create both separate treble and bass tracks and see if those work better in terms of precision and separation. You take care now! Michael

Move Your Feet...
'Cause Moe's a-movin' in! Love this, what a fun little ditty. Yanno, I used to tap dance. Well not really, but I did have tap shoes when I was young. I used them to glide across the floor, glad they were good for something! Keep going, you da bestest!

You are just too nice to me--but I think I'll be going back to the land of covers pretty soon. I bet you were one pretty terrific little tap dancer--a regular Ann Miller! Thanks again--and you take good care now! Michael

Yer a nut.
That's all there is to it. Bottle that musical sense of humor man... Sounds like you're getting it screwed together nicely, this felt coherent and cohesive... And damned funny, my mind always shoots the video while I listen to what you put out... :)

Stand Up and Sing! Then Sit Down and Shut Up
Every time I hear one of your musical posts they are always entertaining and full of life. It's like getting a mini show on MJ's. They are always very visual and make you want to hear more. This one especially because it is too short. But I loved what you gave. I think the midi stuff is working just fine.

Hi Stan
You are too kind! I just kind of flopped my hands around on the keyboard and took it to work with this, but for me, it's been great fun discovering all the things you can do with music on the PC. For the longest time I could just do loops, so this is new territory for me and hope to gain some expertise. I do plan on presenting a serious piano arrangement featuring my crooning very shortly--that is next! Thanks again--and take good care now! Michael

My shout...
Hi Michael. A toe-tapper it is. I can hear Maurice singing the melody for this one. In some parts of Australia, a MIDI is a 200 ml beer. I think I'll stick to the Aussie variety :-) It is great hearing your musical journey.
Peter.

Stand up
Introducing the MJK dancers! Maude Foley from New Jersey.. yes folks, they are her real legs. Well the left one anyway. And beside her, Lydia Clarence from Little Rock Arkansas. Some say she's got a face on her. Others say only for radio....
Loved the music hall whirl of this!
