Description
That picture above. You know, I'm not quite a senior citizen yet, but when I was a very young man, I never thought I'd live to see what I'm seeing above--not in those days. New York, on behalf of my partner and I, we love and salute you--this is indeed a momentous occasion and a great step forward in gay rights. That mighty Statue of Liberty is definitely located in the right place.

Now about this thing: I mixed it using this new software Mixcraft, which I purchased several days ago, so not sure if it's crappier than my usual ones using my customary cheap program, but hey, I've been up all day, saw Doc Severinsen tonight, got all bloated up on fruit salad when we got home, thought I'd play with this new software and just plain felt happy and wanted to sing, so there! BOOGA BOOGA!

Thanks again and hope you all enjoy a bright and sunny--not TOO hot now--weekend,

Michael

PS: I have no idea who wrote this, sorry--I tried! UPDATE: Harry Ruby and Rube Bloom wrote this one (sounds like a couple of prize fighters, doesn't it?)

Arrangement written and accompanied by: Alan McPike
Vocal: I guess it was me

I confirm
it was you singing this.

I think Mixcraft has a great price/quality ratio. I used it for a while and still use it because it has great VST's. As a DAW, it's quite cool. They say it's GarageBand for PC. It has some cool features too. I couldn't use it much because I do recordings with guitars and that didn't work well on my PC using Mixcraft.

Hi Yves
Yeah, I like it so much better than that old Acid Studio program I've had for quite a few years now--much more "user friendly". I know I'll be getting lots of use from it, that's for sure, but I think I'll sticking with Adobe Audition for my vocal junk--probably because I'm more familiar with it, but Mixcraft has some very good features in that line too, so I may do more experimenting in that line. Thanks again Yves--hope you are all set up for a great weekend! Take care now, Michael

Alas dear Jarvoid
I'm still using those snazzy backings from Mr. McPike, but I'm working on a couple created by own own greasy little fingers and hope to have them polished off and slapped up here soon (but no way can I ever compete with Alan--forget it!) Thanks for dropping by old chap--have a good one! Michael

Yep, I'm almost kind of proud to live in New York!
Now, onto this.
First the mix/ recording is great. So stop worrying about that stuff. Your worst mix is still better than my best!! =-)
And the vocals, those smooth jazzy vocals, as usual are delivered with the highest quality from a guy I should be paying to see when he comes to my town.
Great Job.

Hey Jay
You live in New York? I didn't know dat! I have several good friends out that way, and ironically, I grew up in New Jersey, but NEVER got to New York! Closest I got was while traveling to East Orange for a talent show when I was a kid and I could see the very top of the Statue of Liberty from there--that was really exciting for me back then. You are much to good to me Jay--I say we collab on something one day, what the hell! Yanno, if Bing and Bowie can sing together and make it work--just an idea! Thanks again--hope the weekend is a good one for ya! Michael

I have Mixcraft on several PCs at work. I use it to teach 5th grade students the basics of recording. We (the tech coordinator and I) chose it because it's very much the PC equivalent of Garageband. And you can't beat the price! I think you'll be happy with your choice.

Nice post!

Thanks again Andrew
Yeah the price is very good! I probably laid down twice as much for Acid Studio and get twice as much for my money with Mixcraft. I think it's a really cool software and I know I'll be having lots of creative fun with it. You take care now, Michael

NY Rocks
Of course I'm just biased...

Man, you've had a busy day/night, I'm so glad you had a great time! I hope you're feeling better though, it certainly sounds it. You sound wonderful, and the mix is fine. Mixcraft is a great program. Super performance, Moe. You da bestest!

Fruit Salad
Well, I had about three rows of it, so the expectant bloatage was nothing unusual (Stephen puts LOTS of stuff in it too, although anything immersed in Kool Whip is always good--except maybe spinach). Thanks again Impsie--you take care now! xox

Oh, and people kept telling me to watch where the fook I was going as they bumped into me, not watching where they were going...
.... Um, nice work again Michael.

Doc!!
You saw Doc?!? I love him!!

I thought the mix was just fine...better than anything I've ever squirted out. Glad you feel like singing.! I know that feelling of not thinking you'd ever live to see the day... Felt like that when President Obama was elected. Fantastic performance, btw! :D
michaeljayklein said 2824 days ago (June 26th, 2011)
Bapsie!
Doc was just terrific--I hope when I'm his age I can bounce around the stage like that--and his playing is as good as ever, just phenomenal. He brought out a young lady singer he discovered from Atlanta and I kept thinking to myself "That should be Lyn up there. This gal is okay but she's no Lyn!" I'm with you about Obama too--I'm so happy I lived to see that happen. Now, if only Michael Rennie would land his flying saucer on the White House lawn, my life would be complete! THANK YOU so very much Lyn--hope the weekend was peaceful and that you had some fun too. Take care now, xox Mish

Simple, but not Easy!
This is a fabulous song--I've never heard it! I'm glad I get to hear your rendition first, for sure! There is not a single piece of yours I've listened to that doesn't shine, and this is no exception. You make it seem so effortless! Kudos to you . . . . AND to New York City!!!! Slow and steady progress. :)

How'd I miss this??
Just take every platitude and Sinatra reference I've made in your direction and repeat it here... you sing incredibly... Now, about this mix... The backup part, especially the ride cymbal in the drums is coming across as quite strident and sibilant, with either some phase distortion or compression artifact further complicating things... I don't know what, if anything, that has to do with your new software, but from about 4KHz through 12KHz could probably stand some gentle ministration; just on the backing track, the vocal EQ curve is much smoother and warmer... Just my humble opinion...

michaeljayklein said 2814 days ago (July 6th, 2011)
Thanks very much Phil
Oh I know just what you mean--the ending was even MORE strident, so I chopped it off and opted for a fadeout. Many times, because these tracks are virtual instruments (no matter how incredibly similar they sound to the real thing), there are often little qualifiers in there, like the cymbals in this--although I must take some blame too as I think I tinkered a bit with the settings on that track as well. Appreciated hearing from ya--thanks again, Michael

Lovely feel to what you're doing here. You sound very comfortable with the music and I like the backing (have to look into that!). Much enjoyed.
