A Bedlam of Guilt

Description
This is A Casserole of Nonsense with vocals. It's based on my favourite Bilko episode where Sarge can't sleep because of all the rotten things he's been doing to his platoon. There's a brilliant adlibbed speech where Phil Silvers speaks passionately about Freud and Spinoza. The bit with Sigmund doing card tricks was my idea.

A Bedlam of Guilt
Cool song! I like the two part harmony vocals. The bass part really stands out. Exceptional work on that bass!

Why can't I sleep?
I'm glad you liked it. I'm not really very good on the bass, but I make the most of the bits that I can handle.

bedlam of guilt
Nice clean, spacious mix and cool bassline. I enjoyed the listen. I really liked the "bouncing" guitars at about 2:40. Nice!

Boing!
I think the bouncy bits are too bright, but I'm locked into a previous mix, and it would be loads of work to turn them down. If my iMac had a ton more RAM I could remix it all. (Mutter, mutter.) Thank you for listening.

Psychronicity
Love it. Got those KC guitars happening, and the bass sounds great. Vocals are nicely smooth and flowing. Percussion is subtle, and adds much. Seriously funny, and comically serious.

You'll Never Get Rich
Cheers. The "Bedlam" reference is from the Phil Silvers show, and the "hollow sham/lousy cage" bit is from Rising Damp, when Miss Jones and co. were in an amateur existentialist play. Typical British sitcom fare.

collage
A funky pastiche! I love how you pieced in different sounds and sewed together postmodern, non-linear sections. The bass is groovy, and the fingerstyle guitar is tasty!

Guilty
In other words, "He's making it up as he goes along!" I like to leave big spaces, then fill them up with whatever seems to fit. Thank you so much for listening.

The last thing on my mind
... listening to this would be The Phil Silvers show :) BUT from your original inspiration you have created something quite unique here. Your music says as much as your lyrics. Great value composition. Serena

The first thing
... on my mind is Phil Silvers, when it comes to comedy at least. He used the phrase "bedlam of guilt" at least once, possibly twice in the show, and it stuck in my mind. I wanted to write a whole song based on it, and then realised that the backing track for this tune (formerly known as "A Casserole of Nonsense") would fit the bill nicely. Ta for your kind words.

Sigmund Fraud
I'm glad you like the bass. The five strings and the lack of frets allow for interesting noises. Cheers and thanks for your comments.

Twiddle dee dee
I took a twiddling lesson from Matt Hammond's on - line service and you can hear the results. It makes you sound much more adept than you really are, but what the heck - if the ends justify the means, all's fair in love and MacJamming. Thank you for your interest.

Cool progressions
Hi Graham. Cool acoustic progression and some nice bass line introduce the fine layered vocals. Love the sparse section from 2.15. This is a very classy, interesting song. Congratulations. Did you do the art work? Nice. Take care, Peter.

Scribble dee do
Yes, I usually toss off a quick cartoon for these, unless I have a photo handy. I find the quicker I do them, the more natural they look. Unlike the music, which takes ages to sound even faintly natural. Thanks for your comments.
