Description
This a little tune from the 1920s given a boogie kind of style. I used some drum loops but the rest was done on the Yamaha keyboard (synths for harpsichord, tenor saxes, bass, trumpet, tom-toms). For that added touch of "genius", I included the sound of two goldfish fighting over a Tootsie Roll. Thanks for listening and take care now! Michael

"Cross Your Heart" was written by DeSylva, Brown and Henderson (1924)
Artwork: Dramatic scene from the upcoming Macjams City series, featuring some spinach-chinned pirate and me.

Danke Schoen Mike!
It's great now that I have a keyboard 2 feet away from my PC, let me tell you--I was moving back and forth half the day hammering this thing out. Appreciated hearing from you and don't bounce too hard!

Thanks Jay
The hardest part was doing the hi hats--I finally discovered the alternating index finger approach (probably some musical term for this) and that seemed to work much better! Appreciated hearing from ya-take care now! Michael

Great interpretation Micheal so glad you got a keyboard your chops are superb!
michaeljayklein said 2842 days ago (July 14th, 2011)
Hi Neil
I always wanted to play the harpsichord--I remember an old Fred Astaire musical where the harpsichord was played to the boogie beat and it was so neat (Rosemary Clooney's "Come On to My House" features something very similar). Thanks for listening to this thing and for the encouraging words! Michael

Thanks again Karen
The playing was easy, the rest was a bit of a challenge (this is all new to me--especially the "technical end", but I'm really enjoying this and hope to get better as I go along!) Take care now, Michael

Hey, I thought that was sign language for heartburn indigestion. This was just wonderful, it's so cool that you're creating instrumentals with your keyboard. Great stuff Moe, you da bestest!

Thonk you Impsie!
Well, I have the keyboard synths or I can do the MIDI voicings (I think the keyboard's things sound slightly more real) so I have a virtual Salvation Army Band at my disposal! Yanno, when I first saw that picture, I thought it was sign language for "Dracula, stay the fook away from me!" but your interpretation fits very well too. Thanks again Impsie--Michael

Hey there Dave
I've never really aspired to be a songwriter or arranger (although I did the later off the cuff in the past), so this has been great experience and more importantly, FUN, which it should be really. Thanks for listening and taking the time to let me know what you thought of this one. Take good care now! Michael

Something Different
Since at least around these parts you are known first and foremost as a vocalist, it's great to hear this instrumental and discover another side of your musical arsenal. Great performance and energy, and the mix and production sound really nice.

Hi Chris
Yeah, I'm not sure what it is either, but I think the harpsichord gives it the impression that it's not boogie woogie, but I played it that way (or did I? I had some many layers to add to this thing I'm astonished I stayed on the beat!) My next opus will be some loops slapped together, a pinch of whales singing and with me in the background playing "Moon Over Miami" or something artistically dazzling in that line. Maybe I'll play the telephone for added effect, but that's for later. Thanks for listening chief--and your always unique and stimulating comments on this stuff! Take care Chris! Michael

CROSS YOUR HEART
Michael!! I missed you somehow . I've been so preoccupied with real life that I just drift in and out of MJ. This is great! A boogie harpsichord that woke me up this morning. Sounds like you had fun! Good job with the beat loops and very cool toms just for that added touch. I like the walking bass. Short but sweet!

Hi Stan
Oh that bass--that gave me the hardest time! I'm glad you appreciated that aspect--this thing was like playing one song 10 times over but only on different instruments and clefs; quite educational! Thanks again--and take good care now, Michael

I'm so
happy to hear you playing. Do you stand in the oatmeal tub while playing? Is there oatmeal in it? Wet or dry? Steve Martin said he put bay leaves under his arms to smell like soup and salami in his shoes so he could feel funny all day. Whatever works. Jangly bit of fun. Thanks.

Considering the jinque I hear on a continual daily basis, I HOPE this was maybe even marginally more than a a jangly bit of fun but I realize of course I'm something of a weirdo. Thanks again and keep on chipmunking till 2016!

I didn't fail to notice you commented on this thing the same time you were commenting on about 16 other people in as many minutes. One thing I despise is "comment shopping" and the sincerity that entails.
