Lundy's Calling

Description
Wrote and recorded this song a few months back, prompted by my rock climbing partner reaching his 50th birthday. First time I've written a song about climbing, despite it being my other main activity. We've been climbing together for some 30 years with the sea cliffs of Devon, Cornwall and Anglesey amongst our favourite venues. That's Martin in the picture, taken at Baggy Point on the North Devon coast about 25 years back.

Thanks for listening

Cheers

Phil

Lyrics
Why climb those cliffs of granite?
Why scale those crags so high?
Fifty years upon this planet
Yet I can’t tell you why
Apprehension - fear of falling
But satisfaction guaranteed

White quartzite soaring skyward
A hanging groove over Gogarth Bay
No holding back - now that crack’s hardwired
A few more moves to the next belay
You climb higher- with arms on fire
Waves crashing beneath your feet

Compelling lines to feast your eyes on
The cream of Devon beckons you
Moonraker and lost horizon
Uncoil the rope and lead on through
Apprehension - fear of falling
But Lundy’s calling from across the waves

We reminisce in the Marisco Tavern
Grazed hands raising pints of ale
The south light sweeps - its repeating pattern
Rain now lashing - it’s blowing a gale
Motivation – no hesitation
And satisfaction guaranteed

Calling
Cool melody and singing. Lovely production. Chorus is very winning. I learned something about rock climbing, as well. Well done!

Great stuff!
I was stationed at South Stack for four years, as a keeper. 1976-80. Maybe I saw you clambering up "A Dream of White Horses" some time. :-)

Really nice tune.
