Magellanic Clouds (SpaceRace 2011)

Description
Here is my inexpert contribution to the challenge. It was an exercise in removing things from the song rather than adding them, and I think much more could be erased still (nevertheless, it is time to let go of it).

I like to imagine it is a flight through vast, cold, invisible matter and what one might find there: assorted wavelengths, dust, and the occasional bit of satellite debris.

I hope you enjoy it.

Love,

MoM

Cool
Nice bass and the other sounds you use is like you're in a spaceship looking out from the window, hitting on some buttons on the spaceship's instrument and some metroids is passing by. Lovely done MoM

engine
very mesmerizing! the bass sound makes me think of an engine somehow. and after a while i locked into the 4/4 time pattern implied in it. seems like it might be messing with my theta waves

thanks

There ya go...
dust and satellite debris, whizzing almost silently past the window (as Skean says) while the hyper-drive drones on and on and on into the eternal night. Good one.

This is pretty far out (pun intended)! That bass gave really my brain a thorough massage. Enjoyed!

You composed this with an engineering bent: "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." --- Antoine de Saint-Exupery. There really is nothing left to take away. Minimal. Just like space.

True Ambient
This is really good. A minimalist piece that does seem to capture the vastness and emptiness of the void. Just the right amount of sparkle in places. Real nice.

what might we find...
as we open the garage door of space, and venture between the stacks of boxes and forgotten planets and memories of long-neglected spectral interference, entropic ornaments, and galactic garland. did you see something skitter behind the workbench just now? No? Ok, good... it was simply my mind reading between your notes. This was almost long enough for introspection, but stopped just short of self-doubt, which was a good thing. Enjoyably thought-provoking. A well-paced dark soundscape entry.

That
throbbing bass was a nice comfort in that cold dark void as we come up against those extraneous pieces of space debris whizzing by and piercing the stillness every now and then..... definitely a case of less is more..... excellent representation of a trip in space, regards M

What a cool journey. My sub woofer and my neighbors were loving this piece. I turned it up extra loud. Would of love to hear the original un-subtracted version. Great transmission err submission.

Less is pretty good ;-)
It's a most expert entry, no doubt about that. Not many have the guts to make it this sparse. But it works. You just have to sit and listen for every little additional spark. Who knows what message they may carry...

Thanks for participating, and take care,

Henke

We try
to make sense of what's out there giving it "meaning" yet this reminds us that the universe is likely unaware and certainly not concerned about who we are or what we "think".
I like this.

Charlie

A spooky take on space travel. I wonder if this is what hyperspace sounds like?

Well this is the most....
Realistic example of space I've heard so fare, in this contest everyone

Space is not empty after all....
Another person with the patience to slowly develop a tune like this. I tend to rush ambient work which is not the answer. Love the low bass which contrasts with the occasional higher toned synths. Nice work!

So does this tune travel to both Magellenic Clouds or just one?

Enjoyed this one,
Doug
