Razor Wire

This is a change of pace and genre for me. Those of you who listen to my stuff will no doubt know I like spiky power pop and punk with a hint of Americana. I do, however, have an extensive collection of modern and classic metal and heavy rock records. I love to rock out on occasion. Recently I saw Mastodon performing on a TV show here in the UK and it gave me the impetus to crank the amp up to 11 and play with some riffs.
The result is presented here, warts and all. Entirely produced in Logic Express and with minimal post production work (levels balanced and that's about it).
I've tried to do it in the classic metal manner, with distinct movements for each part of the song. Crank it up.

That's the perfect volume for any amp.

Good stuff man. Crazy changeup at 1:12. I really like that.

The vocals are perfect for the music style.

Good stuff man!

Razor Wire
That main verse riff may be simple, but it sure is effective. The section at 2:40 has a great Sabbath vibe!

Paddy Metal

your voice is suited for metal and it sounds great at full volume!

Look at you getting nasty with the double bass pedals. Nice!

face in the wire
Really like the way the main riff just grinds away and also that end/outtro with the 'face in the razor wire' line is way cool. If you ever revisit this i'd try to do something more interesting with that first solo, keep the first measure the way it is and then branch off from there into a melody based solo. found myself whistling this long after I heard it, I'd like to hear more of this kind of thing from you. Bob is right, your vocals sound great.

World War 1 is great subject matter for heavy metal, what a nightmare that must have been, freezing in a muddy trench waiting to be gassed or overrun or both. Anyway cool idea and cool song. Do more!

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
