Description
Got a new toy for Christmas- A TC Helicon Harmony G XT vocal harmonizer and effects pedal. Here is an impromptu song/ demo of me trying out the pedal.

Please don't be too critical- I was making this up as I was playing.

WOW!
Sounds absolutely Real.

Anything you're disappointed with about it? That is, any reason NOT to have one of these in the quiver of great recording tools available?

What spreads were you using (intervals)? The emotive content is powerful.

So far, so good
I really didn't mess with the settings too much. One voice an octave higher and another a third above... but it could have been a third below. I left the default effects alone. One of the really cool features of this pedal is having the ability to double the vocals in a live situation.

I'll need to sit down and really experiment with the device but I'm really optimistic about the possibilities.

Interesting little gadget Adam!
the harmonies sound very real to me also. I guess the "pitch shift" plug-in in Logic does similar things, but to be able to bring it in easily live with a pedal makes this a very useful bit of gear. Has to be easier than teaching our drummer to sing harmonies :)
Cheers from Oz, and all the best for 2012.

Fascinating
Interesting effect - sounds good. Would love to hear you use it in a worked-up song with full backing. Who needs the beach boys when you have a harmonizer? :-)

harm on eyes
That TC thing sounds pretty damn good! Was the TC "sensing" somehow what chord you were playing and adjusting to that? sounded like it would jump to the proper harmony right after the down beat. Was diggin' the tune. you should work on this!

That's exactly how it works, Ray. Both the mic and guitar are plugged directly into the box and each still has its own output- so the guitar is plugged in only as a reference for harmony on the vocals. If not using a guitar, the harmony can also be set to the key the song is in- so far I have not tried that feature.

Thanks for the listen- one of these days I hope to work more on this.

Sang in high school many years ago- I've been playing guitar on and off for the last twenty years and still don't know what the heck I'm doing. Don't ask me what chords, notes, or keys I'm playing in- I use the force when I play! I wrote my first two... [see more]
