Tonight's The Night

Description
This is a re-do of my song "Tonight's The Night," inspired by the Showtime TV show "Dexter." Originally, I had composed and recorded the song entirely in Garageband for iPad, including using software instruments to create the organ and bass lines. For this version, I imported the original mix into Garageband 11 for Mac and did some effecting, EQing, and expanded the form to include a new guitar solo, not a part of the original song. I also replaced the stock drum loops with a part I wrote.

Lyrics
I’ve been waiting for your day
You’re moving forward never knowing I’m close behind
I know you better than you know
I’ve seen you future, your time has arrived

Tonight’s the night, we meet
And pride, it cuts you like a knife
Tonight’s the night
Another day won’t matter when I’ve had my way
You start to pray, you try to fight,
It’s okay the end’s in sight
Tonight’s the night, tonight’s the night,
Tonight! Oh, oh oh.

I’ll see you answer for your crimes
It’s only natural
You try to stop me with a smile
But I am justified

Tonight’s the night, we meet
And pride, it cuts you like a knife
Tonight’s the night
Another day won’t matter when I’ve had my way
You start to pray, you try to fight,
It’s okay the end’s in sight
Tonight’s the night, tonight’s the night,
tonight! Oh, oh oh.

Fill the need,
Fill the space
Fill the hunger
Fill the pain
Tonight, Tonight!
Tonight’s the night!
Tonight, tonight!

Remarkable what you can do with an iPad. There's a bit on this that reminds me of the opening of Deadwood, in a good way. The production is impressive too.

Thanks
I really enjoyed putting the iPad Garageband through its paces to write this, but found the Mac version essential in tweaking, editing, and mixing. Not sure if I hear the Deadwood theme - I can tell you I have never watched that show (yet...)

Dexter
Glad another fan "gets it!" I tried to capture his creepy emptiness with the lyrics.

Neat guitar work
I had to Google "Dexter". We do get it here but I've never seen it. Sounds pretty damn weird. Maybe I should give it a go.

Great work here though and those ipads are proving very adaptable!

Cheers

Dexter
I recommend it highly for adult entertainment. Watch the first season on Netflix, and you'll be hooked.

I'm blown away by what is possible on the iPad. Very professional sounding recording. Love the screaming solo!

Thanks!
Check out the previous version of this to hear the iPad only recording. I do think re-editing this on the Mac made a big difference, but I was amazed by the production capability of the iPad. Thanks for listening.

Dave
Yeah, an impressive mix and production considering what you have used. I like that pic of the guitar too, is that yours?

Cool tune.
