The Whale Road

I've had a little time off music making, what with work and family life. I'm hoping this is a return to form. Loosely inspired by the novel of the same name by Robert Low, this is another diversion into a heavier sound that I played with a few songs back. More of a chance to practice riffing, the lyrical content is minimal. I've tried to learn an Aeolian scale recently and put this to use in the solo.
The book follows the journey of The Oathsworn, a group of Norse raiders who travel to Constantinople in search of a lost treasure. On their way they discover the sea is cruel and men are more so. The Whale Road, the sea, is briefly coloured red by the blood of those it takes. All too soon the blood is gone and the sea retains her secrets.
I have a lot of catching up on other people's music too!
I guess I need not tell you all to crank this one up to 11.

The Whale Road
You grabbed me with that thundering drum groove. Great guitar licks and tones. But what really impressed me is your powerful double tracked vocal.

Battle Snax!
I love this! Great concept man, I haven't read that book but I'm into that kind of historical fiction too. Vocals kill, and that break with the backups around 1:40 or so is so good, it's like indie pop metal... IMO this is one of your best tunes. Like the guitar work too, dude. I'm blown away. Great track.

Heavy progressive
With a heavy drum track! This reminds me of progressive 70s feel to it. Very unique though. It kind lets a mind wander! I like it! Thanks for sharing!

THe Whale Road
Powerful swirling guitars and full-on vocal that suits the theme of the song. Interesting concept. Good work!

Norse metal
I get the feeling those Norse raiders would have liked metal :-) It is good to riff in different scales. Lots of agression and energy going on here. Thanks, Peter.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
