Description
My weekly experiment ... this time something heavier and quickly found how hard it is to mix something like this. I'm still not happy but I find it difficult to get clarity with my guitar tracks and then the swooshing of the cymbals drove me crazy ... just couldn't get them to sound right. I really could use some suggestions from the the MJr's who have mixed this genre of music.

Thanks for listening to my self indulgence!

It's supposed to be heavy! Plenty of clarity in the guitars and let that drummer swoosh those cymbals! Your lead work is really great. Didn't know you rocked this hard. Love those double kick drums!

I love those wild solos in the middle of this - fast, clean, interesting. Stan the shredder! Keep these "experiments" coming - I'm loving the variety we're hearing from you! Exciting music.

really nice HUGE sound on this one, Stan. cool melody too. mix sounds wide and open--arena style.
if i had to pick one nit, it would be the sound as a whole has a slight thinness, nothing major, mind you, but still noticeable to me--barely. almost too small to even bother about. regardless, you shook the walls with this one, man!

good to a hard rock tune. blazing guitars a plenty.

heavy distorted guitars are really hard to mix, no doubt about that. a couple things that help is a mix of single coil and humbucker guitars (single coils for the cutting stuff and humbuckers for a thicker mid tone.

as for cymbals, i usually found setting them way back helps a bit, the high frequencies still cut through. but it all differs from person to person i reckon

I think it's a matter....
of pre-treatment of each instrument, making them sound the way you want before you mix....I like MP4 files mixed hot way cleaner the any
thing else....
But this is so close and the feel is so tight, I lock this bad boy up
and call it right.....
Nice work my Friend....

Combination destination
Great job, what this recalls is plain, yet the disguise is complete. Interesting guitar on the ride out, part of this territory is being "Free" and then imagining... what am I going to do now? This solution works! Stan, keep coming... the edge is closer.

Spectacular guitar on this. I cannot help with the mixing, but Sam knows all sorts of stuff that might help. It sounded good on my crap system, but I wanted to hear loads of bass and crashings and stuff. Well, I did, actually, they just didn't sound as good as they should, no doubt due to the stereo I'm using. Who, or what is your drummer? Were their or its arms tired after all that?

Showing some versatility - changing genres like others change clothes and coming up with some solid results. Some sweet guitar and the vocals have plenty of attitude.

I like that semi clean tone on the rhythm guitars - lots of clarity but gritty at the same time. I'll tell you what Stan - I'm working on a rock tune right now and you're right - they are NOT easy to mix! My best advice - Youtube. Engineers love to post their tricks and techniques there - I have learned a lot just by watching their vids - you might take a look. Really enjoyed this one Stan - thanks!
