Description
"Smoke & Mirrors" is a dual musical piece.
This recording is an instrumental with guitar finger picking, plus I utilize the plectrum as the lead overlay. There is some slight synth as well.

Emily Rohm will be singing the song version. She named the song also.
I will be looking forward to her singing the song version. I first heard her when she was on Tobin Mueller's "Here for a Moment". I felt she was just wonderful in that song!
She emailed me part of the song version, I was very excited about what she emailed.

Already great on its own
Speaking as a terrible guitar player, I am in awe of your ability weave those finger picking patterns throughout the song. My finger tips hurt just thinking about it...
I'm looking forward to posting the song version soon! I hope I can add a dimension to what is already a beautiful song.

you tease!
I love the hook and chord changes in this one and I
am looking forward to the song version. I can
almost imagine how the singing might go... It does
work well on it's own as well, I agree.

Thanks Stun Nutz

Thanks for stopping by. This piece has a TON of meaning for me! More so
than any other musical piece that I have ever composed. I desperately,
desperately, desperately, wanted to write a song with inspiration of Sarah
Brightman's "All I Ask of You". With out a single doubt there is a precious
section and I do mean precious in "Salty Dog" in which Sarah Brightman sings
as well. The section comes in at: 2:04 and ends at 2:14. So when you hear
the staccato plucked violins in my piece faintly in the backround that is were I
received the inspiration.

I am not a pianist or master synth player and am limited on strings being that
I play mainly the guitar so sorry, but this is the best I can do!

As of this writing, I have only heard a little bit of Emily's words and singing on
this so when I say "sorry, but this is the best I can do" is no reflection on her.

Emily's song in the future especially from a women's point of view's is
something that I think I could never write even if it took me a lifetime because
of course I am not a women. Isn't there a lot of meaning in that?

Again, thanks Stun for stopping by! Thanks for the compliment.

I like to write, but sometimes writing can be too personal to share publicly.
For me it is sometimes. Maybe I'll get over that in the future :) I think what I
hold inside in writing, I try my very best to bring out in music.

Thanks

Ha...you know what, I actually do need to practice writing, and I agree
with what you are saying (as far as writing music and lyrics go)... but
when I made the second comment, I was commenting on how bad I
wrote the end of the first comment...isn't that funny? Actually, it's kinda
confusing.

Some incredible finger picking on this
This is going to be a great song. The blending of hard
strums and delicate finger picking is wonderful. Some
extremely fast work going in the left channel. (You might
check the tuning in the guitar on the right...one chord
sounded a little off. Easy to fix.)

Some incredible finger picking on this
I second the emotion! Flying fingers, wonderful. I also like the contrast of
picking and slashing in the beginning section. I'm kind of a word guy, not
into the instrumental thing as much, but I sure am envious of your playing.
Also looking forward to the voc's! Thanks.

So fine
Tiler, I love the ambience you create with guitar. It is the
place of dreams. I look forward to Emily's enrichment.

I appreciate the collaborative spirit of this community. Where getting work
done on songs is so much fun. And you. Tiler, have become a big
inspiration and help to many. Take great care with this song. It is a gem.
That mystical shelf of sound you create in the bridge is unlike anything I have
heard. You may be able to take this one to the bank.

Oh, and never mind the subtle 4-bombing in the voting. We don't really know
the motives for that because no critique was left in its wake. Just follow
your vision on this piece.

Your best...

This is something else! This is really something else.

Whatever the inspiration that welled up within you, it
came forth as one beautiful song. Tiler, I hope the lyrics
match your guitar work. Make sure they do. Because
then you'll have a golden classic here.

This song has that something, a magic that one hopes
for in a song. Hey, that's what I really think.

This hits the spot.

great composition!
I almost missed this, and that would be a shame. Are you going to re-record the music for the vocal version? I imagine at least that the lead flat-picked part would be toned down. I did notice a little out-of-tune part somewhere, no big deal, and it doesn't seem to carry through the whole tune. Could be a stretched string fingering thing.. Meanwhile, I'll be looking forward to the version with the vocal.

great composition!
No I have heard this piece over and over I don't really hear anything that is
out of tune.

It is my most prized piece that I have. With Hero's Dust I received an 8.26
rating and "Smoke & Mirrors" is by far and away the best best and most
meaningful piece that I have ever composed and that includes "Hero's Dust"

When Emily sings it wlll not have the leads for sure, maybe a break and I will
keep the guitar intro.
