Jingle Bells

Yes. Seriously. Jingle Bells.

I wasn't planning on doing a Christmas tune this year. I've started several, but just wasn't feeling it. Then, Saturday night, a Christmas miracle occurred. I was driving home and listening to the radio and a pretty traditional version of Jingle Bells was playing. As it started to fade out, the opening of the Alan Parson's Project Eye In The Sky started coming in and they synced up just right and I was inspired.

This is definitely a flashback to the 80s - nice and moody. I didn't have a lot of time to spend on it and I at least wanted it done technically before Christmas. The mix is a little rough and the one take on the vocals was before my morning tea, but I think it works.

Hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas MacJams!

This is Jingle Bells SERIOUSLY!
An absolutely wonderful rendition of this old chestnut. I had a smile on my face the entire time it played. Joe, you have made it a whole 'nother tune, and mood, or flava (as abzwork would say) and it is delicious. I have faved it, not because it is production magic or because your vocals are outstanding, but to encourage you to do more, more, more in this vein (though not necessarily Christmas tunes). I also downloaded a copy because I really do like it. Thanks so much and have a Merry Christmas yourself.

A stroke of genius.
You made made something new out of something old. It seems MacJammers have a special talent; Christmas songs usually annoy me but there have been a spate of them here that have been a real pleasure to hear, and this is one such. Thanks for posting it!

Great Idea
I think I'd be laughing out of sheer joy for the cleverness of this arrangement if it didn't honestly sound so spooky. It really is a clever take, but there's also a darkness to this which makes you really pay attention to lyrics you've heard a million times and think you know inside and out, but not when sung like this. I really enjoyed this recording. Nice job.

Marvelously minor, Joe...
...Minor and retro in one go...

In fact, pitch this one to Chris Isaak. Clean this puppy up and sell Chris on doing a spooky, mostly minor key, dark retro Christmas album.

And don't let Bono get his hands on it...

APP meets Golden Earring
Definitely nice and moody indeed! I love the juxtaposition of the major key of the vocals and the minor chords in the arrangement.
