Woodwind Family Song

Get Flash to see this player.

Here's a little song I wrote to introduce my elementary music students to the woodwind family. Yes, I know you don't hear any woodwinds on the recording. The song is just meant to begin the lesson, and to get them thinking about the woodwinds. After we learn and sing the song (I put up the Finale notation on the Smart Board), then I actually show them several real woodwind instruments. The kids learn a lot, and we have a good time. I hold up an oboe and a clarinet, and I ask, "How many clarinets am I holding up?" I get a variety of answers.

Such a great idea...
Wonderful way to introduce each section of the orchestra, and you have delivered the message with a tune that's catchy and easy for kids to understand and/or even sing. (And your vocal is good, too, John!) I'd love to see you expand this a bit to include the woodwinds in the accompaniment or as very short interludes... Your students are lucky to have you.

That will capture their attention! It's innovative teachers like you that caught my daughter's attention years ago. She is now a professional clarinetist and professor of woodwinds at a top level University. Thank you. Well done.

Listening again...
reminds me of the scene in School Of Rock where Dewey has to fudge the reason for having his guitar in class by teaching a maths lesson using his guitar....too cool...
