Dark judgement

WARNING: contains some shooting and violence.

Thought I'd give this a go.. loved 2000 AD comics back ...when they were 7p. These were some of my favorite characters and I was hoping the latest incarnation of Dredd in the movies would continue and share these tough adversaries with the more general public.

The characters featured in this fan skit were created by John Wagner and Brian Bolland (2000 AD) - all rights reserved.

(JUSTICE CENTRAL): We got a 459A in Sector C, Hamilton block. The Justice departments Hall of Heroes. Judges in area, please respond.

(DREDD): I'm on it central.

(CITIZEN/BLOCK SECURITY GUARD): .. phew.. glad your here Judge- gets pretty creepy here at night. I was beginning to wonder if I'd overdone the stims. Judge? Your …not… judges…

(DEATH): FOOLSSSS! Pleassssse - take a sssssseat.
The crime isssss life… the sssssentence issss Death!

(JUSTICE CENTRAL): Update on that 459A in Sector C. It's now a 246. Shots fired. Several citizen reports and surveillance has come in of 4 weird judge impersonators from what I can make out- one of them looks like they're on fire(!). Wide-scale block mania with possible narcotics- all hells breaking' loose down there. Be careful Joe.

(DREDD): Copy central. Call in an H-wagon and tell Andersson from Psi-division to meet me there.

Thanks! Being on hols it certainly wasn't mood that attracted me to trying something like this: it was the need to have some concrete cinematic back-drop to purposely drive the music + trying some voice acting, dialog scripting and not least of all .. all the 'foley' stuff and various vocal effects. It gets quite involved trying all that.. only tried something of the ilk once before for Eppy's Halloween podcast a few years back.. I was a little surprised this came in so short .. for the time involved with such an experimental project. Appreciate the encouragement.. as a 2nd ever effort .. it's not too shabby.

Well that brought back some memories...
...of the 1970s and Judge Dredd when he was new and the 2000 A.D. comic when that was new too. A suitably moody piece, seemed to me that the music stopped too soon which must be a good sign. Did you use a plug in to do the female voice or was that a friend?

Thanks Fire Angel

It's very short.. basically so I could focus on all the (hopefully) quality aspects of the brief content...in the time I had. If I can do 1.5min.. I now know roughly how long it would take me to tackle 5 mins...this was enough to serve my purposes/aims/desires. Oh, and all the voice parts of the characters are yours trully (GB's vocal transformer used), with the exception of the 'death scream' sample I downloaded from 'freesound'. I used that free Alchemy plug-in again on this for some layers in the sounds.

Like an old radio play
Which admittedly was way before my time. :) Good one Alan - I like how you have set the mood with the backing music but made the intensity front and centre through the dialog. Clever effects too - you clearly know how to put these kind of scenarios together.

My bio APB is my initials and although I'm from Scotland originally and do music, I have nothing else to do with APB (the band) just so you know. I have been fortunate to have been interviewed by Tobin Mueller for the MacJams Mu... [see more]
