Keep the Funk

Haven't been around MJ much this summer and I apologize for not commenting as much as I have in the past. I've been real busy with Groove Hounds playing pubs and some outdoor summer festivals. We have also been getting together in Donnie's (the drummers) basement where we have been jamming out tunes and recording them. We have been trying to keep a live on the floor sound without overproducing. 2 overhead condenser mics over the drums. a 58 on the bass drum and 57snare mic. 57 on my fender amp and a direct out on the bass amp. Everything is in one room so lots of bleed. On this track it was just one take with Donnie drumming and singing in a 58 for a scratch track but I just kept the scratch and mixed it all together in garageband. This is pretty raw but it is what you hear when we play live.

....all suggestions and criticism is truly welcome as this is truly a new and different recording experience and a learning curve.

The Groove Hounds are:

Donnie MacNeil - Drums, vocals
Stan Gadziola - Guitar, vocals,
Rob George - Bass, vocals

Keep the funk
Good balance between the instruments, and everything is clear and distinct in the mix. It has an energy that comes from being live. Tasty guitar playing, driving bass and sharp, funky drums. Strong vocal with nice full harmonies. The hounds are howling tonight!

Ya'll putting up a rocking noise... 1966 would be impressed a lot more if you put in the bridge but I aint complaining. Made me want to grab some neck, here at MJ that is rare indeed.

Refreshing. Get down, gentlemen. Dirty, head-bopping music. Live sound makes me think I need a beer. Need more of this kinda stuff here. So, more, please.

Groovy-funk don't get much better than this!
It sounds very much like a live performance ... extremely funky and groovy. Nicely done.

Git down and fonkify da howse! We do miss you around here, but if this is the result, then we can't begrudge you the absence. REALLY sweet funk, man! Everyone is locked down tight with one another, SO important! Superb.

This is just such a great little funky 3-piece tune.
