Two things I'm liking about this performance I like the casual opening sounds before the song congeals - it feels dreamy and foreshadows the theme. And I like the way the vocals and the lead riffs replicate each other - there's a nice internal dialog going on inside the song making for a dynamic performance. Manipulation used in the service of such a cool song is no vice. You guys have a very special vibe. This song has all the good stuff from the 70's and none of the bad! Sounds good to these ears A very smooth sound. Like the guitars. Occasional wonky vocal. Yup, mostly live, but I'm not sure what was manipulated. Thanks Thanks Graham ... as far as manipulation, because it was live, there was quite a bit of bleed in the tracks ... I EQ'd and added some warm verb. I also used a multiband compressor to try and tighten up the drums and bass. The main vocal track had a lot of drums etc. so I played around with it as best I could to try and clear it up so it stood out in the mix. Terrific song... ...and a terrific arrangement, too. Sounds very solid to me. The guitar work is so interesting and engaging, but the bass is what really resonate with my listen to this number. You have created some intricate rhythms there that give a great deal of interest to the whole arrangement. To my thinking, this song has an improvised quality to it that gives it kind of immediate energy and a presence that can only come from the freedom of just letting the music play. Thanks Paul Thanks so much for your comments ... for you to say you feel or hear the improvised quality is exactly what we aim for. In most cases this stuff just comes out and the exciting part for us is we never know whats going to happen next which keeps us on edge and very aware of each other as any one of us might change directions and we have to follow. And when we do have some structure and we play it live we never play it the same twice. you hit it right on the nail as far as we are concerned ... and that's a big complement ... so thanks again!
