Lyrics
Everything in its place
All ready for the race
Do you have the wherewithal?
Should we wait for night to fall
To join the hunt?

Everything in its place
Let us prey.
Join the hunt

Thanks, Andrew
It's not exactly original, but I like the minimalist aspect. John Lennon was really onto something with the style of the Ono Band album (check out Bowie's remake of "Space Oddity", for example), but he abandoned it. The next time I heard anything similar was on Richard Thompson's "Calvary Cross" and "Pour down Like silver" tracks. Then, years later, "Shoot Out The Lights." Anyway, cheers for listening and faving it, Andrew.

You can hear how to do this sort of thing properly on RT's and JL's albums, but it's always fun to emulate your heroes.

liked that minor to major change right at the opening. almost "Mother-ish" in the pace. silky harms.

Yeah, Sam
I like that bit. I wondered about simply double - tracking the vocals, but decided not to, just to make it a bit different to the music I was stealing, I mean, paying homage to. Thank you for your time, Mr D.

I can hear
the Lennon minimalism and it works really well.

The harmonies sort of deflect a little of the sparseness but it's very effective.

Loved the lyrics.

A fine piece of work indeed.

Cheers

Dick

Thanks, Dick.
And thanks for checking out Mark's stuff - he's been great since I was at Grammar School with him. Re this song: I wanted just one guitar, but I'm not that good!

is what it is, but it has a certain something that I like. And I'm glad you liked it, too, Narad.

Cool
Can definitely hear the Thompson Calvary cross influence, also a little bit of chris Stamey and big star maybe. Got a nice laid back groove to it
Cheers

I must give Big Star another listen. I don't know their songs as well as I do Mr Thompson's.

Strong lyrics and the approach suits them well. I enjoyed this one, Graham, although I wouldn't have minded a guitar solo over the last part, either :-)

Preying
Yessir. Should be a big hit here at MJ. Your vocals are excellent. The sparseness works perfectly. I can't imagine anything better as far as arrangement. I guess I could imagine magnifying the ending and let it break through into anthemic territory, reverbing the drums out more and more, bringing in the walla sound. But then again.... Also, tip o' the hat for writing lyrics about something worth writing about.

Ta, Les
I think between you, you and Philip have mapped out Hunt Mark 2 for me. I was thinking of removing almost everything at some point and just have the kick drum reverberate (not sure where yet) and adding more guitar at the end.

Long Shadows
Great sounding track, Graham. Sparse but lush and warm at the same time. Nice harmonies. Fine post. Thanks, Peter.

Sparse and lush
That's an interesting combo. When I revamp this, it will have less instrumentation and more harmonies. but no more lyrics. That should work. Thanks for listening, Peter.

Nice mix
I especially like the vocals that have a Beatles vibe to them. The guitars match the vocals well and the simplicity in the drums really make the rest of the song shine.

Thanks, Sschedra. I'm after an early 70's Badfinger sound these days. (I just watched the finale of "Breaking Bad."!)
