This steals material from another piece, but since it's my own that's OK (;D The original piece is "This Pleasant Land", in case you want to look it up. There will be new material as well, don't worry. Lots still to do to this, it's just over three minutes but will probably be somewhere between seven and ten minutes by the time it is done. The ending's a bit sudden but of course that's because the tune isn't finished.

Very nicely done pastorial feeling...
...and looking forward to an expanded, more elaborate version of this in the future. Thanks for sharing it! Michael

I'm getting the mood right at least.
Looking to conjure some serenity, so thanks for that comment which lets me know I'm getting there. Glad you enjoyed.

I like the music
I'm less keen on the synth tones. The composition is fine, of course.

Not keen on some of the samples myself.
I really look forward to when finances permit me to get a better orchestral instrument set, for now I have to use the sounds I already have. Thanks for comment on the music itself, I hope it will get a lot better by the time it is finished.

I like your composition with this piece. Orchestrating music, particularly with midi instruments, can be challenging. The orchestra instruments that GB provides are pretty decent sounding, but still tend to come up short in terms of authenticity, but that may not be what you're going after anyway. It sounds more to me like you are working on your composition and arranging skills, and you
are doing a fine job. This stuff is just not that easy! I enjoyed, and look forward to a finished piece - thanks!

I would love some more realistic orchestral sounds, but have to wait a while before I can afford them. You're right that I need to concentrate on my composition skills, and I will be working on his some more this weekend I hope.

A work in progress...
...with many suggestions for development. I'd suggest spending all your time right now just writing a score that you like rather than trying to write it and orchestrate it as you go along. You'll get more of a sense of continuity that way. ... Also, there are some stray notes that don't quite fit the classical harmony that underlies them. (e.g. 1:18-19, 1:23, (etc.) 2:31, 2:36, 2:43, Again, write it down and you'll be able to tell where there are conflicts. That happens to me all the time, and being able to see it on paper and analyze what I've done on a visual level is always really helpful. Question: is there a theme? a tune? an extended rhythmic element that runs through the whole number? So far this seems like lots of short bursts that don't particularly relate except in terms of general tonality. ... I don't mean to be overly analytical or critical. I just want to offer a few thoughts that may help you focus a bit more on your end objective. Lots of potential here, that's for sure.I will look forward to hearing where this all goes.

Thank you.
Feedback as thoughtful as this is helpful, and may well help to make the piece better than it would have been without it. Having a frantic period in life at the moment so it will be a while before I am able to devote as much time to this as I want, but I will keep your words in mind when I get back to it. Thanks again for the fearless and thoughtful comments.

I like the variety of the instruments, and of the music - there are some majestic parts, alongside some gentler, simpler elements. Much enjoyed!

Living in London, England, and I love the place. I have masses of energy and tons of interests, far too many to list here, even if I restricted myself to my musical tastes. Grew up in a small town, knew nothing much till I left and came to Lond... [see more]
