We both set our alarms for six o'clock, a.m.
We'd meet up with one another by the dock, near the pavilion.
Hoping the sunrise would show a sign from above,
That it would least of all shed some light on our love,
That it would make us remember what the other one said,
That it would give life to what was bound to be dead.

We slowly strolled alongside the grey concrete.
We had to stray from its path, so straight, so restrictively neat.
In one hand I held our shoes by their worn laces
All tangled up into the most ill-destined of embraces
The cold dew of the grass on our feet was reminiscent
Of a time long forgotten, and so hopelessly distant.
