The Kid Who Wanted To Be A Cowboy [FINAL]

Description
I was reminded by J.A. Stewart that I have been a member at MJ for ten years!

The past few years have been a journey toward getting a music degree. Having come from a musical and artistic family, I chose the visual arts early on. In 2004 I wrote my first musical composition. Now, ten years later, I have graduated with that degree. My musical inspiration is my father who played a numerous amount of instruments including the banjo. He was always supportive in everything I did. This composition is dedicated to you, 'Paw'. I love you dad!

I graduated on May 10th with an AS degree in Music Theory from Niagara County Community College. Part-time for the past four years was the pace I had to endure... Full-time at the university was too grueling! I ended up with a 3.43 overall (3.86 in the music concentration).

This is a story about a kid who wants to be a cowboy after riding the lead horse on a merry-go-round. He always dreams about cowboy stuff, and after his trip to the carnival, he dreams some more... Take a journey through the mind of a kid and his horse. But first, he has to wash his hands and eat dinner...

Very nice
A very interesting and complex piece of music ... that must be a really good school!   ;-)   It is literally what I think of a “cinematic soundtrack” being, namely, a well thought-out series of musical moments that support and tell a story.

Cowboy
Delightful - this certainly tells a story. I love the variety in the melody. There's complexity in the arrangement, but it doesn't create fussy or overproduced music. All that study was clearly worth the effort, Alimar!

Does it get much better?
No, it really doesn't. From pencil tool to master of classical orchestration. I am jazzed that I have been here to witness to progression. Keep riding, cowboy!

The Kid Who Wanted To Be A Cowboy
Time very well spent, Al. You compose engaging, musically interesting works that showcase a wonderful appreciation of all the tonal varieties possible from traditional, and non-traditional, orchestral instruments. A light touch combined with a jaunty feel make this special. Happy 10th MJ birthday and congrats on the music degree. Regards, Peter.

Congratulations!
You've clearly passed your orchestration class. This is much more like a real orchestra than most of what passes for orchestral on this site.

Very nifty piece, and much enjoyed.

Evocative
...as all good soundtracks should be. It doesn't need it, but an animation would be great with this.

Boy's dreams
Light and jaunty as Peter said. This is full of fun and daydreams - nicely orchestrated (love that bass clarinet BTW) and the banjo as a tribute to your dad is great. A fine work which through its themes and tempos tells a sepia tinged story. Very nicely done! Appreciate the dload too.
