A long way home

 Genre: Soul

A song aimed at my band to play. This is a rewrite of a song that's a couple of years old. Gave it a new intro/bridge theme and also altered the chorus a bit. Hopefully all edits are to the better ;-)

I’m taking over,
now I need to choose
What feels good and oh so sane
Please don’t tempt me into easy ways
to the money - and what to gain

All the good in life
- that’s all around
Waiting just for me to see.
Must be amnesia - it’s hid from me
all the life there is to be

Damn you - if you put me down.
If you tell me - what I can’t.
And if it’s only me, to see my crown
Let me be - Let me be me.

|: It’s a long, long way home.
And I’m not sure I know my way :|

‘cause it’s all about to be at peace
I need my calm to be my best
and oh so humble - that I’m still here
forever grateful for my life

Am I to go where my heart says yes?
Or should I follow where you go.
I know my guts will tell me what to do
and that I’ll harvest what I sow

|: It’s a long, long way home.
And I’m not sure I know my way :|

Scandi soul!
You do this style so well Thor. Everything works for me here, but I especially love your trademark guitar licks and the groovy organ.
Hope the band likes it ;)
Very best wishes from Oz,

A long way home
Happy to hear you play guitar anytime, Thor. Lovely fills and a sooo tasty solo. Soulful vocals. And as Neil said, the organ is just right, too. I'm sure the band will like it. They are crazy if they don't. Thanks for sharing with us. Very nice, indeed. Take care, Peter.

good vibe here
it's not forced at all. like the little things going on with the guitar. the little slide up on the chorus really pulls it together. keys are cool. nice vox, mate. enjoyed

Seems like forever...
...since I heard something with the thoddi groove...

This has got that thoddi rhythm in the guitar, nicely set against the organ.

If I was going to make a suggestion at all, I'd hollow out a little more space in the mix for your vocal, maybe pulling back or compressing the drums just a little... I've always enjoyed your vocals, and I think the way you phrase against the groove is part of the enjoyment of your tunes, so you want to have space for that to breathe...

Great to hear. I also always enjoy hearing your guitar playing.

Thanks Ed
Brilliant observations that I'll be taking with me. Thanks :-)

I think I tend to push the drums a bit too up front in the mix. I've heard that mentioned a couple of times :-)

The drummer here is from the "new" Logic Pro feature, where you get to choose a style, a drummer and then play around with how the drummer should play. You also get to alter the drum kit to detail. Very cool.

One thing I wasn't aware of 'till lately was the "follow" option you get with a drummer track. If I set the drum track to follow my bass track - it will click into place with the groove I'm playing on the bass guitar. Pure magic :-)
