Rise Up! (with ktb)

 Genre: Art Rock

This one has been kicking around the hard drives of the two Skunks for so long it's tough to remember who did what. But, Skunk2 did the amazing lyrics, vocals, and the Applied Acoustics Strum Electric. Skunk1 did the bass, drums, real guitars and the usual mixing and mastering duties. KTB supplied some amazing synths leads. (Thanks dude!) I couldn't seem to get the master to come up in volume as much as I would like, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Let me know if it seems too quiet a mix in comparison to others. Hope you dig it.

I put out my hand
I pressed my face into the soil
My horizons don't expand
They just twist inward like a coil.

Is it true that I can change?
Or just the things that I can see?
Am I only rearranging
all the things that I would be?

Can I close my hand,
Turn my face toward the sun?
Where all I see is at my command
with my journey just begun?

So, I put out my hand
to defend against the glare.
Have I come to understand
that my path has led nowhere?

Is it true that I have changed
while all around is undisturbed?
Or did I only just exchange
what I saw for what I heard?

Vocals sound okay to me
The song really gets going after the gritty electric comes in. I think the vocals work out fine as far as the mix goes. The synth lead is simply tasty. Really rockin' at about 1:30. Nice job man.

Powerful tune. Nice build. Liking the stabbing syncopated rhythm guitar. Guitars all around are way cool. Great synth work from John.

countrified rockin'
Hey, great harmonies on a solid base of music. For me it's working like an old favorite classic does for me (I'm 57 yrs old). Vocal levels to music sound good to my ears and the mix also did well on the cheezy speakers.

I like
the flow of the song and how it cruises along and builds. So many fine elements involved. If this were done live, a longer jam in the middle would be a must. My #1 favorite SW tune of all time, love this tune.
Since this sounds like it has some breathing room w/some actual valleys in the wav form, I couldn't care less how loud or soft the final turned out. I have a volume knob.

Great song that builds to epic proportions. Inventive, power guitar work and some breakout keys from John. The vocal work is first class. Quality post all round. Volume level seems to be in the ballpark. Thanks, Peter.

Now this kicks some ass! Really cool driving stuff. The mix sounds fine to me - I know some people use Audacity to boost thier mix if that's any help but it's good to my ears.

Intense. Serious. Sitting on the groove. The opening gives no indication of the massive wall of hypnotic sound that's on the way. Some ktb goodness. Love the vocals, especially during the harmonies. The mix sounds great. Tops all around. Definitely wants to be extended. I'll just have to hit the replay.

Path that lead no where
All working well on this track. The vocal might benefit from a clone or two chafing against the out front. The plan to include a quick out was not what I expected... kinda left things unresolved which is good. Thanks guys the bar is high indeed.

and applaud. Guys, this is just plain downright terrific work; it's written and performed in such a way that it kept sucking me in with it until I didn't want to get out. Loved it and thanks!

As many others have said ...
Somewhere around 1:30, this song simply takes control, takes the remote-control out of your hand, and tells you to “shaddup and listen.”   Very well done.
