Crankenhurst 2014 (Updated 1978 Version)

Now see what you guys made me do?

I was so jazzed over the 'Crankenhurst Challenge' that I ended up recording an updated version of the entire 1978 tune that our high school band The Brothers Bruce recorded back in the day, with all lyrics intact as they were. (If you want to call them lyrics....yeeek!)

Actually, the originallyrics had the line 'whipped out my guitar', which I changed to 'whipped out my synthesizer' because, firstly, that's kind of where I am nowadays, and secondly.... it's just funnier. This tune was written to be a laugh originally, and set The Bruces firmly off in the direction of comic music.

We actually did record serious songs then too, but they really didn't stand out the way the silly stuff did. And still does - many of those tunes are actually available online at The Brothers Bruce artist page.

So, here's the long lost 'Crankenhurst', a loving homage to the three great guys who gave this crazy song life - Jef Leeson, Al Jensen and Pete Jardine. I hope this version makes you all laugh as much as the original did back then.

I was standin' all alone at the train station in Crankenhurst
I had just finished my lunch, roast beef and liverwurst
Well, I looked out that window
And I'll tell you what I saw first

Well, she was kind of short, but that really ain't too bad
And the way she moved her hips kind of reminded me of my old dad
So before she was gone
I took a run for the john

Well, I saw the girl again and man, she had a real cool pair of shoes
Coloured all kinds of colours, reds yellows and blues
So I whipped out my synthesizer
And started playin' the blues

Well, I told her that I loved her as I finished playin' Disco Duck
She said that she loved me too, I could not believe my luck
So we went to Niagara
Ridin' on a garbage truck

Hey Rik!
1978---I think I started junior high school then; how the years fly! Extraordinary creativity abounds on this--what a nice flavor you've added! And was that "Disco Duck" at the end?!

I missed this one. Cool one Rik - amazing what happens when you whip out your synthesizer. Fun tune with some great gags (and some visualizations that stretch the old synapses!)

One thing though - shouldn't you be changing your name to Bruce - just to keep things clear?
