For A Moment

Written by my dear old friend Brian Dyre back in 1984; we played this tune in the first real band I was ever in. I've wanted to cover it forever, so I contacted Brian and asked if I could, he said it would be fine, and could he play on it? I was thrilled! Brian sent me all the sax and flute parts you hear, I'm the drums, bass, keyboard, and guitars.

This is probably not the final mix, I may be adding a trumpet or two to the mix...

**In case you're wondering, that odd intro/interlude is the horns and guitars playing a 5/4 and a 7/4 bar while the drums play 3 bars of 4/4**

For my new CD, "Still Life", coming fall 2014!

The Moment is Gone
All in the tradition and well conceived... Your partner avoided the dreaded harsh sounding flute solo too. Thanks for posting this ready for adult contemporary radio piece. Keep um coming!

This works...
Lively horns and the sax solo grabs me. As an amateur sax player I must say, enviously, this is some great mellow, tight riffing... and then the flute. Dang! Excellent production. Excellent song...

For A Moment
Sounding good, Phil. Smooth, sinuous sax and some fine drive from the bass and drums. Classy flute solo. Tim Weisberg, eat your heart out. A warm ride. Thanks, Peter.

Lovely work Phil
of all genres i have ever listened to, jazz is the most relaxing and satisfying for me and doesn't seem to age. Love those horns and flutes.... great additions to the whole......great stuff, regards M

For A Moment
Enjoyable, well constructed and executed piece of quality jazz music. Brian's sax and flute work is excellent, as is the solid and tight backing that you provide. A well spent 4 1/2 minutes of "ready for adult contemporary radio" smooth jazz!

For a moment
Rolls along smoothly with enough in the arrangement for the smoothness not to lapse into dullness. Quality playing (I especially like the bouncy bass). Impressive, Phil. I hope you make lots from the CD sales!

Had no idea you played so many instruments - and so well! Great job. Especially enjoyed the bass. And yep - that intro/ending works - brilliant.

"Ready for radio" to be sure. What a great production here. The skills at mixing are so evident in every bar of this. Sax is very special, and the backing band is spot on in sync with everything else, in volume, and in precision of playing. This is a superb production. (And the flute is so perfectly played, esp. as a complement to the jazz going on here. Claude Bolling comes to mind. Congratulations.
