I was born in the northern part of the Netherlands, flat land with big skies. In the 60-s they found here the biggest gasfield of Europe. The exploitation of this gas helped to overcome the disaster of the second world war. A lot of the money was used to build infrastructure like the Deltaworks.
But the people who lived here never saw much of the money.
Now the land is caving in and hundreds of minor earthquakes over the last ten years caused tremendous damage to tenthousands of houses. Jobs are lost , schools and shops disappear and the people who want to leave can't sell their houses.
We're "the people from the clay" , hard to move, but when we will see the first deadly victims of these earthquakes that are getting heavier by the year, we'll raise hell

I did this one on my own...
me on the keys and bass, drums done in EZdrummer
I hope you like it

Life is so hard
Here in the land by the sea
The people are moving away
Or better said they flee
Now the earth is shaking
The land is caving in
Walls and windows breaking
The downfall begins

Refr: The people are worried
They're living in fear
All that they want is
Get outta here!

It's all due to gasextraction
The politicians say: We need that gas
The same conditioned reaction
They're leaving us with the mess

Bridge: We call it earthquake country
It's not the place to be
Once it was like paradise
For you and for me

You know, I was born here
I am a Northern man
It makes me want to cry
What they do to my land

Sad story. Unfortunately we don't seem to learn the lessons we should from such cautionary tales. I like the jazzy changes. The electric piano and bass are sweet.

Amazing backstory, Cees. The same thing happens over and over again round the earth (deforestation, strip mining, etc.). Big business takes what it wants and then tosses the land aside. Liking the understated groove and the intelligent lyrics. Fine song. Thanks, Peter.

Steely Dan Feel
Nice EP starts it off... and then the vocals... both have distinct Steely Dan feeling...

This is a terrific song, I really enjoyed it.

Dangers of Fracking
Once they figured out a new way to frack there was a rush in my area to drill, now there are tremors just northeast of me in Dallas county. Makes me wonder if sink holes are in the near future. Love the song, the mix is spot on and the message is a warning that's to the point.

Great sound...
...from "the band" you have assembled with your plug-ins. I find it just a tad too loud against your vocals. My only suggestion is to bring those vocals UP a bit in the mix. The narrative is a very compelling one, awful as it is, and you have delivered that story without great fanfare, directly stating the facts in a clear and honest fashion. The minor-ish sound of the arrangement also underscore the tragedy of the lyrical statement. Nicely-conceived song that is delivered with confident playing and singing. Important message to which you give a powerful voice. Nice.

like the laid back rhythm section here Cees, especially the electric piano and bass, mixed in with all the other instruments makes a great vibe.
A sad story but makes a great song, enjoyed your vocals.

My Northern Land
Powerful lyrics. Good rolling feel you get. The touch of fuzziness on the keys gives an edge to the arrangement. Fine work, KC!
