What Have I Become

Get Flash to see this player.

Once worked with a guy who was arrested and sent to prison for collecting pictures of tortured children! God knows how someone turns into something evil and twisted like this but it effected me so profoundly I wrote this song - from the perspective of someone like him. It's obviously a little on the dark side - but hey that's mostly what I write!

And I'm looking for advice again. So if anyone's got any opinions or tips on what could be done to improve this song (from a production perspective), would love to hear!! Would love one day to get my stuff sounding good enough to put out there, but still learning at the mo! I mean imagine this being used for a horror film/sitcom - well I can dream ha. But yeah any advice or positive criticism taken on the chin and greatly received - how else can I improve! One thing I'm thinking of changing is the acoustic at the start which may be a little unimaginative, and writing a piano part or something. So any ideas very welcome.

But anyway I'm starting to waffle - please have a listen and let me know your thoughts? So sit back and imagine Norman Bates from Psycho singing this song ha!

What have I become
Powerful song. Emotive vocal. I don't mind the acoustic at the start. When everything kicks in around the 1:02 mark, the mix gets a little muddy - not sure you need everything that's there. I like the simple ending with the piano. Much enjoyed!

Yeah think you've got a point - I noticed a little muddiness. Wasn't sure whether it was a mixing/EQ thing or too much going on. Will look into trying to get it to sound a little sparser at that point on. Nice one and thanks for listening!

Sounds good to me
I really like the song.

The acoustic works well. I'm not sure it needs the distraction of the synth line and might be more effective with just vocals and guitar. Then again it may have a meaning (morse code?) that I haven't picked up.

There's a lot going in when the main "band" kicks in but I like that.

Excellent idea for a song and great hook line.

This is exactly what I want! Do you mean the children choir sound just before the band kicks in or the low bass synth that comes in with the guitar. I'm guessing you mean the low synth sound - let me know if I'm wrong? Without this I thought the intro sounded too light. It gave it some low end and an evil vibe. If you listen to Limp Bizkit's cover of Behind Blue Eyes, they use something similar. Without it, it sounds quite empty and lacks vibe (in my opinion). Do you think it should be changed or just maybe lowered in volume? I genuinely welcome any suggestions?

it's the high frequency sound that's a little like a radio signal or morse code.

Soz I'm late getting back - been up the wall! Yeah I know which sound you mean now. That's actually electric guitar. That's one of the first sounds I used to set the mood so I'm keen on that. Will try it without it but from what I remember I thought it sounded bare when I tried it without. But will at least throw it much further back in the mix - I want it so you hardly know it's there, just helping to set the mood. Good advice - thanks again for letting me know! All very helpful.
