This gives you all a glimpse into my world of cantoring. I lead singing (often with both voice and nylon guitar) at one and sometimes two churches on weekends. I keep trying to improve my breath control and guitar playing. I love the Psalms of King David. A psalm is sung at a Catholic Mass after the first scripture reading. Here is Psalm 63 for the "12th Sunday in Ordinary Time." This setting was written in 1981 by Balhoff, Daigle and Ducote (for Damean Music). However, they wrote it in 4/4 time. My keyboard player at St. Mary's, Larry, did an adaptation in 3/4 (waltz) time several years ago for a Polka Mass. Well, we were on for 4:30 Mass this weekend and he sent me his Sibelius score and a practice MP3 he had made "for accordion and piano." I did not like the feel of it. I did this practice recording in order to convince myself that it could be smoothed out with less oom-pa-pa. Then after I did the recording, I discovered the original 4/4 arrangement online and figured we better do it the way it was intended by the original authors. Bottom line: both meters work for the song. By the way, I sang all the parts in this basement studio recording, including soprano Matilda.

The 4/4 version (true to the original published version), was captured live with my good old Zoom H2 recorder today at St. Mary's Church in St. Paul, MN. It is posted here: http://www.macjams.com/song/82453
