Dream Age Teen

I've written a lot of songs about how it felt being a kid whose head was filled with all kinds of artsy happening dreams living out in the boonies and feeling like the world was passing me by, but I think that I get closest with this tune. And then looking back on that time now and wondering what my wife was up to back then, we're the same age and from the same situation.

Musically it's about all of the references cited in the song. I wanted it to feel like an 80's alt pop tune, the kind that you could drive and dream to.

lying awake staring at the posters on my wall
Christian hosoi, mike Dominguez, Robert smith and all
radio is playing some late night punk rock show
and I want so much it breaks my heart and I got nowhere to go

rolling stone has david byrne in a big suit on the front
that's just how I feel so small inside the big things I ain't done
radio is playing sister Christian motorin'
well my motor wants to run me far away from where i'm from

where are you?
are you lying in bed, are you thinking about me?
are you listening to the radio and trying to believe?

I comb my hair like brian setzer with my heart in my short sleeves
and I'm cool and I get the girls but I feel like i'm making it believe
radio is playing come on feel the noise
but noise is all i'm feeling man, noise is all i'm feeling

You have an unerring pop feel, Craig. Good song. I kinda turned my radio off in the 80's and just kept listening to new music by seventies artists, so many of the pop culture references are only vaguely familiar, but the song works for me, anyway :-) Like the bass and the light and shade synths, too. Thanks.

Love the squeaks! The lyrics are compelling as yer nostalgic I think. The synth work is fab, understated but effective.

Solid pop effort!
I've always liked your voice Craig. Glad you're still cranking out the tuneage.

Really like the instrumental mid-section. Breaks things up nicely and sets up the return.

Be well friend!

killer lyrics
really evocative with great sideways connections - that's artful writing in my book. the production is brilliant. great synths and driving pulse - the whole sound is so unexpected - an alternative wall of sound.
