Walk in the Light

Get Flash to see this player.

A bit of a reflection on the relationship I currently have with my younger son, (18). It started with that feeling of striding along with a toddler on my shoulders and built up from there.

Walk in the Light

Like a star in the daytime
You just can't see me
The world revolves around you
Like a star in the daytime
You just can't see me
You have a different view

I built your foundations
Left before your graduation
Abandoned the building of you
Tried to be from a distance
But accept my persistence
Left us stuck in a place
That's not true

Ah but once I shone
Bright in your night sky
You walked in the light from me
Once I lifted you
High on my shoulders
Showed you all you could see

Time moves on
And I've reluctantly discarded
A suitcase worth of feelings
Slowly letting go
My emotional baggage
A heart that's finally healing

So go your own way
For now I'm redundant
In a role I used to hold dear
Make your own world
Create your own language
If you speak I hope I can hear

I'm a sucker
for father/son relationships: mine's all I have left now. The simple guitar work nicely sets off the complexities of your lyric/vocals. Thanks.

I can relate to this. I don't know if its a vocal similarity or the song itself, but this feels like a Roger Daltry/The Who song to me. That's a compliment - nicely done.

Walk in the Light
Sad song, I think. The backing works well, the vocal is expressive. Good song.

Walk in the Light
You are braver than me, Mark, writing about stuff that actually matters to you. I just make 3rd person stuff up... Really interesting reflections. You worked it all into a sympathetic arrangement. Honest and engaging. Thanks.

I read
the lyrics along with the song and found both a little sad, but promising at the same time. I chose to see the positive side and eventually leading to a "happy ending." The starkness fits the emotion, so great 'production' choice. Here's to hoping all remains well!

Very nice...
Happy and sad at the same time. A little in spirit like "Cat In The Cradle," although musically quite distinct. Good arrangement. Nice vocals. Clear production. Three thumbs up friend!

Be well!

Chapin's tune depresses me...
your tune does not. Instead it invites me to reflect. I like that!

Walk in the light
You bare so much of your soul in your lyrics and convey your feelings well. Don't give up on your son. In another 10 years you could be the best of friends again.
