Contagious Benediction

Time for a new song. For thirty years I knew my birth father lived overseas and we had communicated now and then by letter then e mail then skype. Last year my wife and I made the big trip to spend 10 days with him by the end of which I realised sadly he was a complete knob. Although angry on first returning to England over time he's now been put in his proper place in my life and he's certainly given me a better appreciation of my adopted father.

Contagious Benediction

The facts remain
But perspectives change
I see you now
As the man you really are

A selfish creature
With a mind firmly shut
If I were harder hearted
I'd tell you how I feel

I can't change you
Today or any day
But the stars are re aligning
......for the better

If I'm not here
I'll be Somewhere else
Drive to the end of the world
I'll be just down the road.

I'm not there
But here and now
The box marked pain
Can be buried in the ground

Thirty years to realise
Thirty days to react
Feelings in their
Proper place at last

Serenity spreads
A contagious

Released at last
A contagious

hilarious song description mark. i didn't see my dad for 25 years because he was an alcoholic who showed no interest in any of his children and screwed around. when he gave up alcohol i assumed he would be a different person so i renewed our acquaintance....but he was the same person....only sober this time (and very dull). unfortunately i never had an adopted father.....so you're a lucky guy.

love the song. love the production, how you've got that beat going on with the phaser effect....and then some orchestral stuff coming in over the guitar. nice major resolve on 'road'.
loved the a cappella outro.
great stuff mark.

The title alone drew me in
but the explanation even more so.

I'll send you my story by PM Mark.

Impressive work.

The simple setting allows the lyrics to really come through with no distractions.

A sad but important song.

I always look forward to hearing your songs Mark. You bare your soul to the world. The production on this is spot on. Everything has a reason and a place in the song. Fantastic.

Interesting backstory. Familiar melody with a twist. Understated but clever and sophisticated arrangement. The panned vocals work well to focus the listener on the resolution. Nice work. Thanks.

The way with the truth
What we recall and how we express the connection to the past seems to be why we write. We seems to understand this what differently as time goes.
There is some sneaky dissonance in the orchestra swell that starts just before the 2:00 mark that is just delicious... it's kinda hard to hear though...
The tag at the end is superb.

sound like the best reunion. I really like the song, though, despite the personal slant in the lyrics. Hypnotic it a good way.

Just like life!
It's never how it is in the movies! Brilliant and honest!

I'm glad that you came to terms with the situation so well.
