The story behind how this song came to be is very cool, and is a testament to teamwork, and it also shows the contrast (as well as similarities) to how both of these fine ladies write.

It all started when my friend Melani contacted me and asked if I would assist with an idea she had for a duet with our mutual friend Kathy. I readily agreed and suggested something I have been wanting to do for awhile. The idea being that each artist would write to the same rhythm track, and about the same subject, but would work totally independently of the other. I was telling them that since they were working to the same rhythm track and to the same subject (which we agreed would be "friendship"), that their tracks would work well TOGETHER in the same song. I told them I should be able to work the arrangement so that both of their ideas come together into the same song. So they began writing alone, and then sent up their ideas separately. Neither had any idea what the other would do except for the common rhythm and subject to write about. Then came the day I showed both what the other had done. It was a lot of fun to say the least! So now is where MY part came into play. I showed them this arrangement and both were thrilled at how well they gelled with the other. I simply used Mel's verse as the first, then Kathy's verse as the second, and then just laid together, what they sung separately. They were both amazed at how well they fit together. Giggle giggle fun fun.... LOL. I had very little editing to do. I think I dropped one word out where it was too much, otherwise I used %100 of their melodies and words!!!! The song was at that point nearly completed. I did add some different instruments, and a lead passage (bridge chord change). Viola! We have a duet which is a melding of both styles! What a hoot these girls are and I loved working with them on this idea!

I know your ups and downs, and when you´re crying bitter tears come to my room
the way we share our laughter, it is fleshing out our friendship, true and pure
I love your dignity, we make it happen, we´re satelliting our life
can´t you hear the flowers sigh
We make it happen

After awhile, the only things that matter
Are the things money can’t buy you.
After awhile you’ll come to understand.
Love, love it comes easy
When you open your heart.

all the moments we live, (Make it! )all the love that you give (Make it Happen)
just a four letter word in a cruel crazy world (Make it )another day is going(Make it ) bye (Just Make it happen. Yeah) but I I can rely
We make it (Friends)happen, (family )we let the (ooh ooh ooh)sun shine
We (Make it ) make it happen, (Make it) we walk together, (We make it happen) side by side (Yeah)

-Guitar Solo-

we make the moon ride (After awhile)
We make it happen (After awhile)
(the only things that matter)We make it happen, we make it happen ( Are things money can’t buy you)
We Make It Happen!

Amazing. You'd never guess how it had been done without your explanation. Sometimes experiments are only interesting because of the cleverness of them, but in this case the final product is delightful. The different voices work well together and your ability to play every instrument known to man and do a great arrangement keeps everything together. A triumph, Freddy!

Great idea and backstory. It comes together so well. Melani and Kathy sound great together. You deserve a special MJ musical medal, or something, for bringing people together with music, Freddy. Your arrangement provides a subtle, sophisticated musical stage for the girls to shine on. Thanks to all. Take care.

great back story. the difference between both vocals coming together is a great treat. and a nice welcome since we don't get to hear females on this site much anymore.

I like the energy in the bouncer beat it reflects in the singing and guitar solo, funky enough to move the feet

Wonderful idea to have two independent vocal lines. It really works.

Hm. The backing band is kind of a Beatles three-track: piano left, drums in the middle, and bass on the right. Especially that bass bothers me a bit.
