A FISTFUL OF PENNIES

Description
A long time ago a fist full of pennies was a small fortune.
Not anymore - but it still might feel good to grab a fist full of them.

An interesting and amusing video with a much improved version of this music can be seen here:

Accompanying the demise?
Great composition, Charles. This is a very moving piece. With your implicit tease about the destruction of our money and its purchasing power, I can imagine this music along with scenes from history that chart that declension. Very much enjoyed.

Interesting take on this piece Jack. I
’d like to think this works on several levels and this is one of them.
Thanks for the listen and the kind words my friend.

The story:
Captain Jack trolling the shoreline in search of a safe landing/hiding spot. The fog is thick, so he steers with caution through quite-still morning swells. Pieces-of-Eight are on his mind and a lingering apprehension and melancholy envelops his thoughts, Barbossa's dramatic demise haunting him like a mantra that I plays an eternal cycle, a rhythmic coffin hammer counting each of Jack's many lives and never surrendering the inevitable pace of hos own journey's end. ... This is the calm and measured Interlude to your buccaneer adventure on the high seas. It plays like a Siren song: enchanting, hypnotic, beckoning, suggestive...deadly. The waters are deep here: magic, mystery, and murder lurk just yards away, waiting...waiting...waiting. ... Yer spinnin' a hearty tale, Charlie. The language is tight and short on filigree, but the narrative suggests great adventure ahead that'll be filled with unusual surprises as the story unfolds.

Paul,
you have gone overboard and I love it.
I think I’ll let you swim around a bit before tossing you a life preserver.
Because your’s is a life well worth preserving.
Thanks my friend for the entertainment and for the kind words.

Charlie

A FIST FULL OF PENNIES
Majestic. Big sky music. It captures a sense of purpose and adventure. Had me thinking of a wagon train heading westward full of anticipation and trepidation at the same time. Fine arrangement, Charlie. Thanks.

My hands are up high...
and you have me at a disadvantage sir.
I will tell you a secret. As much as I admire a certain composer
named Ennio Morricone this music isn't inspired by nor a tribute
to him but rather to another film composer I have great respect for.
I won't tell you his name but you're free to guess.

Not
everyone comments and that’s OK too but it’s always special when they leave a few words.
Makes me wonder if you’re not the only one that had their comments lost.
Thanks Calchas

Does this follow For a Few Pennies More?
I finally got back to hear this work. There is a rootedness to your use of a pedal which makes the changes in melody and harmony all tie back to and get contrasted by the relation to the pedal. I think to me it gives this interesting combination of roundedness and yet there is this incessant motivation to move forward as evidenced by your faster rhythmic lines. I've listened to both the post here as well as your YouTube video. Nice work Charlie! Thanks for the download.

I often
like to work around and with a pedal. It gives me structure yet strangely liberates me. Thanks Doug for your always interesting thoughts on my music. Just heard and much enjoyed your Western Stranger.
Cheers,
Charlie
